I never claim to look down on the tanks, I’ll be more than happy to add them, but your initial point was “adding counterparts to 2A7 and 122s”, which they are not direct counterparts by WT standards. The Abrams has already received the reload buff to compensate for the lack of skill and good hull protection.
I respectfully disagree, they are anything but better than what it is currently in game, the SEP V1, V2 and V3 for the game’s purpose will be absolutely identical in how to use and counter. Likewise the Leclerc XLR or any other tanks of similar make and model. The last big upgrades are over for current generation MBTs, the next leap would be the things shown off in Eurosatory and tech demos by GDLS.
You grossly overestimate the Abrams hull protection, the M1A2 series hasn’t seen new production in years and a lot of them are converted from the M1A1 HC and HA series for improvements.
So what? Composite armor modules can and are replaced on upgrade programs.
Same goes for the Leopards, etc. Tanks don’t need to be newly produced to implement substantial improvements when the platforms are as flexible as the Abrams and Leopard are.
As I said: even if they weren’t 1:1 counterparts, it’s still better to have a 9/10 to face a 10/10 than a 7/10.
And I’m glad you acknowledged this, because that’s how it would be going forward, there’s no other MBTs that have the same protection coverage, other than Russian tanks (that gets absolutely one shot these days through the LFP anyway). M1A2 SEP V3 will at most stop DM33 if I’m being generous about what Gaijin will do.
Leopard 2A7 is better than Leopard 2A6 because it has better armor.
Therefore
M1A2 SEPv3 will be better than M1A2 SEPv2 because it also has better armor.
Yes, it will have the same turret ring weakspot: the same way 2A7 has the same LFP weakspot as the 2A6.
The tank retaining 1 weakspot does not mean that it getting rid of another weakspot isn’t a big deal.
Will it be better than Leopard 2A7? Maybe not.
Will it be better than the current SEPv2 that must face Leopard 2A7? Most definitely. And for that alone it would be welcome.
We don’t need SEPv3 to be a destroyer of worlds. We just need it to be better than SEPv2 in SOME way.
It will hopefully also do a bit of flavor of the month stuff and get more of the better multi nation players back to playing the US. Just like how the Leopard 2 PSO addition saw an increase in German winrates even though it was a sidegrade at best.
Hell German mains aren’t even much better than US mains, the 2A7 just does a lot of hand holding.
