Late model F-14A, and the F-14D. Slightly better radar and IRST on the D. Suppose the F-14D could get AIM-120s and iirc they also tested an HMD on it.
Of course, you can also give out Canadian, German, and Japanese evaluation models.

That’s why I said “in general” and not “in every situation”. The better maneuverability and thrust vectoring coupled with the fact that its IRCCM makes it impervious to flares inside about 1.5km and very resistant to them inside 2.5km makes them a better general choice.

Why wouldn’t it be good?
Early J-10 variants with the AL-31F were underpowered until they received the WS-10B engines.
Given that it weighs close to a tonne heavier than the F-16C Block 50 with almost 2k kgf less thrust and a delta wing/canard design makes for a fat and slow bird.
If they decide to go the early J-10 model, it will only have PL-8s and PL-11s.
J-10a featured PL-12s which may or may not be coming next patch.

The only thing you are correct on so far is that I have no idea how Gaijin will add it. Typically they have opted for early variants first but given the imminent arrival of Fox-3s, they may want a later J-10a with PL-12 capability.

Like I said, happy for you to post documentation that states the rough figures I posted are incorrect. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out a plane with a heavier airframe, less thrust and a delta/canard design won’t hold energy well compared to it’s current F-16 counterparts in game.
