iran army still use chieftain, during the Shah, iran army was one of the best 10 armies in world but right now its weak
R27ER is just fast and insanely good at turning at its higherspeed, imo its better than R77

abrams of america was a better choice but some relations with british companies and some iranian powerful mans in 70s ended with this tank lol

It definitely makes an argument for it, the R-77 is better closer in though just so you can defend better, 4 of each missile is probs the best loadout for the SU-27SM
I still enjoy the gripen a, it’s quite potent. I just never run anything that’s not the 6x 9m because skyflash sucks.
I always thought of it as a Challenger 1 prototype, but the “Chieftain” wording got me confused for a moment…
Then I remembered that, technically, Challenger 1 is a development of the Chieftain, so… kinda checks out xD

aim54 has the obvious range advantage but ever since the fin aoa buffs, they’re pretty potent at medium to long range. The r27er is much better within 20km though.
But when you get constant 14.0 matches against the MICA’s not having a longer range missile makes the A useless outside of downtiers, unfortunately sweden has essentially no alternatives like most nations considering your other 13.0 option is one of the worst at that BR. And if you wanna try something else you get a okay missile barge at 12.3
Well, admittedly I haven’t played the gripen a since 14.0 dropped. The current 14.0s should probably be 14.3 already though and i don’t think many people would disagree with that. They’re simply too strong against the current 13.0s.
the issue is that outside 20km the chance to kill regardless of missile is much lower, the Fakour 90 is worthwhile because of its speed but the AIM-54 is too slow and doesn’t pull hard enough to be a real threat most of the time
If you actually guide them in, they’re decent. problem is no one guides them all the way in to pitbull in my experience. They just fire them and go cold. If you fire it at about 40km from 5km alt or higher, it should be going about mach 1.5-2 when it’s pitbull. It’s no fakour, but they get the job done.
Honestly i think my biggest gripe with the gripen A comes from the fact that sweden just sucks as a whole, nearly every nation has an alternative 12.x or 13.x vehicle the gripens are just kinda eh and the A gets the worst of it. If BOL wasn’t nerfed it may actually be decent but i find needing to spam flares to get a 9L off is the worst, especially since if i dont carry at least 1 skyflash i cant ever get close to most ARH slingers. If it had 7F it wouldn’t be as bad since it has range but its only good within 6KM and if the target doesn’t just fire from 15KM and if you actually have good terrain to notch and run.
Hopefully we see gripen e this year. That would at least help with the t/w and the amount of missiles you can carry even if it doesn’t get iris-t nor meteor.

AIM-7F swap AIM-7M, but lose AIM-9M from F-15A Baz and decreased BR to 12.7
RB 71 DF (Skyflash temp) replace with RB 99 but omitted RB 74 (M)
even at those speeds it’s about a 15-20 second warning of an incoming missile, so unless you’ve got a really bad RWR you should still have plenty of time to avoid, there are lots of very unaware players though which does help you get kills

Not really, if its as awful to fly as the current gripen it will be yet another missile bus, it needs its EWS since thats literally the main feature of the vehicle. Again its like the F14 not getting ARH and playing in the current meta, additionally gripen E would just mean the TT is dead as a whole. Theres nothing aside from the E so gaijin will either leave the tree with nothing aside from a f18 which will either be meh and sit at 13.7 or maybe it might be good and be 14.0 again its just a bad time to waste effort playing sweden as a whole imo. Id rather see Danish and Norwegian vehicles added, then id have an excuse to play another draken or a CF-104

an early Gripen E just to bring the radar up and make the weapons kit better would be fine, they’d still have to add a later variant with IRIS-T and Meteors, but no matter how you look at it Sweden is nearly done, might as well make them as competitive as possible in the meantime
