Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 1)

Such as? It doesn’t matter when they add the F/A-18 now as it’s already going to have a subpar FM so it will always be better the sooner they add it. TBH they should have added it not long after Apex Predators in Dec 2022.

The Type 10 is a solid MBT, but claiming it has the absolute best firepower at top tier is misleading. Sure, its APFSDS rounds have good penetration, but firepower isn’t just about pen stats—it’s about effective lethality, which includes reload rate, ammunition versatility, and stabilizer performance.

Russian MBTs like the T-90M and T-80BVM bring strong firepower to the table, with their 125mm cannons capable of firing a wide array of rounds, including high-penetration APFSDS and HEAT-FS that outperform in versatility. Add in ATGMs like the Reflex, which give them capabilities beyond what the Type 10 can do. With APFSDS only lacking 36mm less penatration, but having 70mm more penatration with its HEAT-FS rounds.

As for mobility: Yes, the Type 10 has a great reverse speed, but Russian tanks aren’t far behind in forward mobility and often excel in terrain adaptability thanks to their higher power-to-weight ratios.

Armor-wise, Russian tanks are leagues ahead. Relikt ERA gives them unparalleled protection against both kinetic and chemical rounds, something the Type 10 simply can’t match. The Type 10’s ‘semi-competent armor’ isn’t competitive when it comes to surviving a direct hit.

Your argument overlooks these things and reads like selective praise for the Type 10 without an understanding of the bigger picture. Russian MBTs dominate in versatility and survivability, making them far more competitive overall. Especially since all maps are close combat, and Gaijin is supporting that by decreasing ground maps with more and more tight borders.

The thing is, I shouldn’t have to do that when you can just pull more with an F-15 without having to gimmick-toggle sim controls.

It’s true that the Flanker likely doesn’t retain energy as well as an F-15, but its high-AOA capabilities are non-existent in the game and the Flanker loses against the F-15 in a one-circle.

True. And I expect with a T-80BMV (2023) to get the 3BM59 which will seem to have worse pen overall, but perform better against angles, giving it a marginal edge over 3BM60, and all in order for the tank to get it’s -25km/h transmission which I believe they will in fact give it.

In exchange I’m sure M829A3 and DM63 or whatever the next round is will come too.

Is there actual sources to say it has this, or just video / claims?

The problem with labeling “strongest” is how you interpret it. The Su-34 has the strongest AGM in the game. However I believe its not THE BEST CAS plane in the game, why?

Because the F-15E can run 6 Mavericks, Multiple guided bombs, while still retaining 4 AIM120s, on the best Air Superiority platform in the game. Rendering it the bigger all around threat, plus it can slam more ground targets per pass.

So its a matter of perspective and criteria.

It wouldn’t even be that bad if Gaijin would model the VT-4 correctly.
Chinese tanks right now are just worse Russian tanks.

I would like to point out that you are the one who chose to engage with me.

If we’re talking about firepower in the sense of reload + shell, it does. I mentioned the poor gun handling, and that is absolutely a con of the Type 10.

ATGMs are irrelevant at top tier, HE or proxy HE is better in pretty much every case I can think of. HEATFS pen is also irrelevant as Type 10 and T-80BVM/T-90M get APFSDS stock.

Semi-competent means it isn’t great but can still work. Compare that to Leclerc, Merkava or Ariete and you’ll see what I mean. And yeah, Russian tanks have better armor but armor is the least important of the three pillars of tank design (in War Thunder)

M829A3 and DM63 would be a useless addition without anti-ERA tips which of course won’t get added because of Russia.

If we speak performance wise DM73 comes with a slight pentration buff.

DM 63 is only surviveability. Turning the round inert and not exploding anymore when hit.
Means we could fill up hull ammo rack as extra armor

Yeah, the survivability thing goes for the M829A3 too.

Overall i still dont get the hate to russia.

Over the past few years their air has been beaten with a newspaper
Their helis have reigned in or been matched/surpassed
Their MBTs have seen back to back indirect and direct nerfs

The Pantsir and KH-38 are their only real remaining standout features imo.

I just dislike that Russia gets like 10 million premiums.

Russia players do too ;)

Even then it still magically remains the best combined arms nation.

Arguably with high performance Type 10 APFSDS and the fast reload, it is a contended for best firepower. Maybe not the absolute best, but still up there.

The only real negative I see might be the mediocre gun handling, and I am not fully sure what Russian tanks would have there.

Mobility is a bit mediocre for Type 10, not something I’d call a distinct advantage unless they fix it, but it is decent. It is also not really worse than the Russian tanks.

Reverse is a distinct advantage for Type 10 here.

I agree here. Type 10 armpr in game might as well just not be there. There is a few areas that might sometimes stop a stray shell, but nothing that can even remotely be relied on.

Type 10 is a really good tank in game, just not a good MBT in the traditional sense of the versatile, close combat tank to take points with. It might as well be a light tank the way it performs, but is arguably rather good at that.

Even with better ERA for western tanks, the Russian tanks generally have an advantage in layout due to both height and composition. It’s much harder to overpressure Russian tanks with HE, but the 3OF26 is best in class at doing that exact thing to the larger, boxier western turrets. Even when there are spall liners, most tankers don’t know how to react, and a follow up shot will usually nab them.

Zvezda had a program on it, but as others have stated above, no spedometer in the tracking vehicle can be seen, and allegedly the wider FOV of the shot may have allowed a marginal increase in the footage speed to give the appearance of a faster reverse gear. Sounds like a lot of if’s and maybe’s, but that’s the general consensus here.

I’m inclined to believe what Omsk Transmash has said in that they began adding an extra planetary gear to the transmissions when they finally restarted the T-80 production (not refurb) line last year. But that’s just me, and I’m basically the lone nut here.

To early to say that.

Thanks, I mix them up all the time.

Type 10 is a high risk, high reward vehicle. You cannot be still, because your armor does not save you.
It has a high skill ceiling, but also a high skill floor.
So only very good players can bring out its full potential.
