The F4F ICE gets AIM-9L/i for close range which is on-par with other missiles like the AIM-9M (it’s exactly the same except for it lacking a smokeless motor) and its perfectly fine at that BR. The biggest thing the ICE lacks is just it’s flight performance and no HMD for more easier off-bore shots. And AIM-120’s were added with it simply because Germany doesn’t have any ARH capable planes other than the F4F ICE and the Eurofighter.
Also adding IRS-T to the ICE might happen when 5th gen IR missiles are added to the game. Many aircraft currently in-game could receive them but adding them might raise the aircraft’s BR to a point where the aircraft is almost unplayable.
Adding a 5th gen missile to a 3rd gen aircraft is going to cause a lot more problems than it would fix. Especially if it constantly sees more advanced 4/4.5 gen aircraft with the same 5th gen IR missiles. A obviously solution would be to adjust BR’s to the selected loadout but Gaijin are very unlikely to do that.
That is relative flying trandao and beinga round anything fighter related is being in that kind of 20km kill bubble. Being in the ICE and facing F15 or F16 or anything is being that kill bubble. But with IRST you still got to see the traget and it is more resitent to countermessures not “100%” accurate and unflarble.
If gajin is smart the say and add it as protype version with some “kinks” still powerfull but adjustble.
Not really, there’s a difference between “damn this is hard to fight” and “well it’s literally impossible to live through this”. I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to giving it 0.75 Gatewidth and the AIM-9Ms seeker blinking as a stopgap until more missiles of the class arrive.
As for how they would be balanced later most gen 5 IR missiles have a ~2 second gap between activating (not firing, but activating) their seeker and when the IRCCM comes into effect where they can be preflared.
As someone who is not stressed out about replacing the ICE at top tier and not arguing for [shiny new plane] for germany, I still find that argument lackluster. By that logic you can trash the whole BR-system and go by year of introduction; i.e. have fun fighting Centurions, M60s and T-55s in your ikv103, Maus sees M4 Shermans, Wiesel 1A4 against T-80 etc. If you argue with realism, don’t be selective.
An F/A-18 won’t do German CAS any good. If they add the Swiss F/A-18C to Germany then it will be air to air only. Switzerland never fitted air to ground weapons to their Hornets
Technically Smin did not say that other nations would get the F/A-18 at the same time as the US.
He only said that no other nation would get it before the US. So his statement still leaves the possibility open, that the US would get the F/A-18 before any 3rd party nation could get it
@YeeT_and_Delete its still possible
swedish gripens got mavericks they never used and the swiss pilots were fully trained in cas as well
it is another f4f aim 9j situation as well
True, but the Legacy Hornet can be added to quite a few nations other than the US via subtrees or just through the relationships between countries so it would be quite stupid of Gaijin not to capitalise on basically adding the same aircraft to as many nations as they reasonably can
Absolutely. Just wanted to point the possibility out.
If we go for all possible additions we get:
USA: US Navy Hornet
Germany : Swiss Hornet
Britain: Australian Hornet/Canadian Hornet
Japan: Malaysia Hornet
Italy: Spanish Hornet
Sweden: Finnish Hornet
if I didn’t forget any
