It’s designation is FA, fighter-attacker.

But the point still remains - a subsonic fighter is not going to fill the gap at top tier air for the UK. Even with AMRAAMs. We’d be better off with a Tornado getting AMRAAMs.

It would be a really weird choice to give us right now.
The best outcome: CF-18 from Canada or F/A-18B from Australia.
The C&P outcome: SAAF JAS39C
The most likely outcome: Sea Harrier FA.2
The most insulting outcome: Tornado AOP

Sea Harrier FA.2 would be a pretty interesting choice to be honest.
Its dogfight potential is essentially 0 against MiG29s and F16s, but the Blue Vixen radar set would be essentially unnotchable. It would be INSANELY good. Paired with AMRAAM and its instant acceleration, we could see it being fairly good.

Tornado AOP would be DOA though. The Ferranti Foxhunter just doesnt cut it and the airframe is essentially a bomber.
