issue is i cant find the stats for R74M so they both may have the upgraded motor.

from my understanding from the Russian paper i read only r74m-2 has different name rocket engine but both r73/m and r74/m share same rocket engine
how did they increase its range to 40km while r73 is reported to have a range of 30 km ? both have the same 20 sec lifetime.
there is no r-73m
there is the r-74m and then the r-74m2
battery life is one option
so is a different rocket motor
its 20 sec for r74m
smaller electronic make more space so either better battery time or more rocket engine power or both ?
where are you getting the 20 second battery time from?
that means it gets a different motor too ?
maybe for r74m but i doubt r74m-2 has the 20s
that is not battery time
that is a time to target counter
which wont work properly without range data
which you wont get with a pure IR lock

still weird to have it set to 20s for no reason. could be 0 sec , could be more than 20 but why 20s specifically which just happens to line up with r73’s max flight time.
yeh only r73/m and r74/m has shared motor but for some reason r74m-2 said to have different naming idk if that means new motor or just re naming thing
then it has to be a new motor
there are only two options how they increased max range by 10km
either battery time or a new motor (or both)
maybe both ? like 1 to 2 second in motor and Maby 10s to 15s on battery
it isnt that easy
it is also possible that they changed the burn profile
the motor for even the r73 changed sometime during its production run
earlier sources for the r73 talk about 25km max range while later ones say 30km
probably a motor upgrade. ig they probably added more fuel and increased its mass fraction.
