yeh but youd expect the engine and inlet to be optimized to perform efficiently around that part of its high altitude envelope rather than losing thrust so sharply just above it obviously some loss is expected with altitude, but the question is whether the in game thrust curve is dropping off too aggressively
While I think it would be the worst of the new IR missiles (compared to MICA IR/IRIS-T/ASRAAM/Python 4 and 5… etc), it’s main uogrades are just overhauls to the seeker, iirc it should be dual contrast a bit like a strela but it’s not IIR (infra red imaging) which is what stuff like IRIS-T and Aim-9x use.
Besides that improved booster and control surfaces

so faster, improved range and maneuverability plus the Russian version of a more advanced seeker. that’s more than i expected that might be nice while still underwhelming compared to the others.
Yeah it won’t be anywhere close to a MICA IR, but it’ll still be a respectable jump from the 73, especially for dogfighting since it gets a much wider seeker FoV so they won’t spin out and do crazy bs because the seeker can’t handle over the shoulder like R-73

isn’t the r73/m and r74m basically using the same motor though if that’s the case it would be a bit unfortunate but the r74m2 apparently gets a new motor with a longer burn so that’s a different story 🤔
i thought R74M and M2 were the same but M2 has clipped fins for su57 ?

Got to be one of the most dubious IR missiles to find info on, but at some point from 73 to 74m2 it gets an extra 10km of range, which i assume has to be a minor motor upgrade since aerodynamics don’t change much between the variants
