New Players to Air Realistic, Experienced Pilots Reply

Was playing in an air realistic prop match,…and a mate asked, “New to Air Realistic, any tips?”
I remember that too just after Beta! I used to be an Arcade boi lol.
My general tip was get some altitude and energy going mate, he was in a DO 335.
Keep that thing above 450km/hr at least and your plane will start to handle right, remember the lead circle in Arcade youve seen a million times for your gun.
Take some test flights and fly it see what it can do.
What would you experienced mates tell a new Air Realistic player?
You know how how it is,…when you come from Arcade, your plane feels like a boat.

I’m not the best player in air rb but I’ve grinded pretty much all of the the French, Chinese, US and Russian tech trees. Your tips about gaining more altitude and energy are pretty spot on. Here is what I learned while playing:

  • Know the limits of the aircraft you fly.
Don’t try to turn fight in a plane that turns worse than most.

  • Check above and behind you often.
You don’t want the enemy getting the jump on you.

  • Help teammates when you can.
Don’t let teammates get shot down when that can help you in return.

  • Bring enemies to teammates if possible.

  • Use aircraft for their appropriate role.
Don’t use a strike aircraft to fight a fighter. (There are some exceptions but that’s up to them to figure out)

  • Lead further than what you expect.
The reticle in arcade doesn’t show you exactly where to shoot it just tells you where the aircraft will be.

  • Get used to your gun convergence distance.
This is the distance where bullets cross. Matters a lot less with guns that are close to the center of the aircraft

  • Stay off the deck until you’re sure no enemies are above you.

  • Use flaps.
They really help especially if you’re in a plane that doesn’t turn very well.

  • Stay out of furballs UNLESS you have more speed and energy than the enemy planes.
Going into a furball with lower energy is like jumping into a shark pit wearing a meat suit.

  • Don’t attack bombers from below.
Most bombers have guns that will shred you while you lose energy.

I am only a mediocre player… but my advice would be: start from 1.0 again, but this time in Air RB.
Learn the ropes. Learn energy: speed and altitude. Learn to energy trap, and to avoid them.
Learn that your planes now have rip speeds - as have your flaps and gear.
Learn that your ammo is now finite.
And learn all that from scratch was incredibly helpful for me.

Also, my personal take: get every TT plane. Fly it. Spade it. Get some experience in it. And you will get to know their strengths and weaknesses, and will learn how to beat them.

Yours,

Every time I get to a new br, I hop into arcade battles to learn the leads I will need as the planes reach different speeds. It helps a lot, also, in props always try to have an altitude advantage, boom n zoom is pretty good for a lot of planes, simple and effective. Speed and altitude are anything, never dogfight anything that you can run away from unless it’s a certain win

Maybe try to start from P51C10. It’s straight forward-- You will benefit if you are at the right spot and get punished immediately when you get yourself into a bad position. You can learn where you should be at the start of the match using this, and the timing of getting frags.

I hate the P-51-C-10 with all my heart, the plane itself is mid and the guns are abysmal and do no damage whatsoever. Use the P-51-D-5, it’s so much better

When I moved from arcade to realistic the biggest thing I needed to keep reminding myself was “you can break your plane now!” In arcade flaps don’t rip, over speed dose nothing, G loading is irrelevant. When changing modes those changes where as dangerous as enemy players.

I think if a player new to Air RB followed my advice and played a TT from the bottom in Air RB mode, they might find a plane or playstyle they liked. For me, Spitfires clicked. For others, Yaks. (Yes, easy mode, I know), for others, US BnZ’ers etc.
My biggest and most important advice is PLAY WHAT YOU ENJOY AND F** THE GRIND

No head on attacks unless necessary,. Well done

If only most US teams would learn that, well done

Ive only grinded one time, that was to get Mig29 years ago when it was relevant, before Fox 3s…well done, I dont grind at all, I just enjoy my planes until the next one comes along…Well done
