Mm, it might come down to personal preference but I enjoy Naval more as a slower paced gamemode where it doesn’t come down to first-to-engage-first-to-kill that can be experienced on air or ground.
So the way this thread is suggesting the direction could be problematic for me (although I have yet to experience it myself since the game is currently still updating…). Could there be a middle ground to be had though?
That’s fair, personal preference and all. I’d like to see all the actual bugs fixed before we all decide too definitively on the shrapnel changes though.
the question is very simple and should be the first to be asked
… is the game more enjoyable to play after the update than before ?
for at least the 5th time in a row the answer is an emphatic NO
why do they never test changes
why do the never think about the changes they have made
why do they never adjust tasks to compensate for the way the have changed how the game is played
this is just really basic simple to work out stuff but for 10 plus years it has never been addressed
as expected the voice warnings that few ever wanted because they clutter the sound and extend the ping and lower the fps got an untested update that made them sooo much worse ( somebodies bright idea after 2 bottle of vodka ?)
almost no chance of maneuvering because the bridge has been hit and no response possible because all the guns have been hit …
… perhaps they should pay the ideas guys and the coders and they might get updates that are better than what the unqualified amateur volunteers come up with
I really don’t like the new indicators. Before the update it was a rewarding feeling, to guess the direction, speed etc and land the hits before the rangefinder even calculated. Now it’s a mode for apes really.
And also with all the INSTANT enemy damage info you get now, just for looking anywhere and clicking a button you can even choose the most crippled enemy and steal it from your teammates.
The damage info was good as it was before. A few seconds of info AFTER you could land some hits.
I was excited to see all the new stuff but right now it is just terrible und frustrating. That was the mode were I was actually decent. Now it’s just ruined. What a mess.
Yeah, I’m done for tonight. Let’s see what happens tomorrow with any new patch. What sucks, I just played 2 matches and said screw it, this is not worth my time with 1-2 salvos deaths. We need 1 extra day or points discount on the task #1. I will have to do something like 85% of the task tomorrow (and waste my whole evening) just to catch up. Why do we have to constantly suffer for gaijin’s mistakes and ineptitude?
Can you tell me what actually changed? I still have to guess before I get the lead cursor and I still have to compensate when it shows up? What do I miss?
As an aside, I needed 4 matches yesterday to get just ONE last special task kill in a bluewater ship. I kept getting “assist king”, but no kill in DDs or CLs. I finally completed the task by AAing a plane. Insane!
I think they are talking about arcade.
I play RB and it’s a minor change there
No, I’m talking about RB. I think it’s a huge change, to have that much info available just pressing a single button. Instant. Now your enemy also gets instant info when you are changing direction and/or speed, which was harder to make out before, giving you escape options.
This stuff as it is in arcade I wouldn’t have any problem with it, but in RB it is way over the line.
Now, in the naval battle, everything has been destroyed.
Armor is meaningless, no maneuvering is possible. Position is also meaningless. Domination mode? I don’t remember arriving at the point. Everyone just clicks HE. It’s really a waste of time.
I’m very surprised they didn’t put any thought into this patch.
I want them to know that being good at killing each other doesn’t make the game fun. If I’m going to play a game like that, I’ll go for a gun shooting FPS, not War Thunder naval battle.
A further issue I would like to discuss is the fact that underwater armor does not work at all.
Underwater bullets ignore all port side armor, which currently equals no armor on battleships…
This is probably the worst part. It’s essentially a permanent repair time and reload penalty for no reason. How could they release a major update with such a bug, and still be unfixed yet, even more so with a Naval event running!?
And also, as pointed out, BBs and BCs have become useless. Dying to 5 inch HE 2 minutes after spawning is not even funny as a joke.
THIS is the kind of reason why no one plays Naval. Not because we don’t like it- but because it’s so buggy, broken and in such miserable state that no amount of shiny new toys can make up for it.
Up to 4.7 matches (where 5 inch/130mm was already the dominant gun) there’s no significant change that I saw. Played 13 RB games with 3.0-4.7 lineups last night, DD’s and CL’s were a bit more brittle for sure, but standard mitigations (don’t show your side, keep moving and turning) worked about as well as before. US HE-VT is significantly more effective, I think, so nice boost for US DD players. But destroyers already were at risk of instakills before this too. Enjoyed the new shotclock stuff.
I actually didn’t see any change in air ordnance or torps. Seemed basically the same.
The perma-repair bug was EXTREMELY annoying though. Hope that’s fixed first.
What has really changed in arcade? I try to figure out the new system. Was there any description or is it “log in and find out”?
- A fire control system (FCS) interface has been added to naval vessels. In the upper left corner of the screen where the radar interface is, there is now an indication of the relative position of the player’s ship and the enemy ship in the crosshairs.
- With ship indicators, it is now much easier to assess the exact direction of the enemy’s movement and take the right lead.
- The interface also clearly displays undershoot, overshoot or coverage, indicating the value in meters.
- For those who appreciate accurate shooting calculations, the interface contains information about the heading angle and target speed.
- Take aim at the enemy, wait until the fire control system (FCS) calculations are completed, and the interface will display the position of the enemy vessel, heading and speed.
- The data is updated with each update of the FCS calculations.
- If the vessel is equipped with both an FCS and a radar, the switch between interfaces is performed using the “Toggle radar search on/off” key.
- If all observation posts or the fire control room is destroyed, the display will turn off. After the repair of these modules is completed, the interface will be functional again.
- Changes to the hit camera. The vessel’s hit camera is constantly displayed while the enemy target in the crosshairs.
- The numbers of destroyed and intact modules have been added under the indicators of damage to guns and torpedo tubes. Under the motion indicator, percentage of the enemy’s maximum speed that they can develop at the moment have been added.
- Information about enemy crew losses as a percentage at the bottom of the hit indicator has been added.
- Indication of the threat of a ship colliding with the landscape has been added. The warning sound about approaching shallow water has been replaced.
Took out the SKR-1 for a single match just out of curiosity since they were being spammed and I died to it several times and its just disgusting.
Dissolved 10 players before they could even bring their turrets to bear.
At every BR I’ve detonated numerous ship and been detonated multiple times in turn.
Armor is pointless, internal bulkheads to prevent uncontrolled flooding may as well not exist, I’m just waiting for the coup de grace of gaijin fixing the eternal uncancelable repairs and saying the rest is working as intended.
Yes SKRs being able to pop now where they couldn’t pop before, so they’re no longer the meme ship, and a fair fight vs a 4.3 destroyer, has been a good change, even if it broke a lot of people’s event grinding plans the same way borking battleships did. Saw a surprising number of Chikugos last night though… what no longer works at 4.3 still works at 3.3, it seems.
Sparvieros also doing better relative to PG 02s, I found. Their round is more effective than it was, and the HE buff has blown through the fake armor the PG 02s used to have as well.
That should not have been added in RB. That’s just too much information, and I think it’s annoying. I hope they will remove it or at least allow players to turn it off.
I’m actually horrified at that “improvements” list, it’s an “I want” list for botters! That this nonsense actually gets past Q&A boggles my mind…
Yeah, it would be nice if it would be optional. It always popped up when I hit the ship, now its on all the time and I have no idea who is hitting the ship. If it is me or somebody else
Yeah, suddenly I am ammoracking everyone with 4.7 IJN destroyer.
Costal machine guns same thing.
No ideal, especially when the Event for SMS Baden just started.
