SKR has some weird stuff going on, not sure if bug or just gaijin being gaijin. If you want to look at my last match in the replays you can.
My SKR gets hit by a couple rounds and gets half a dozen small “unrepairable” holes then sinks to 19%. Next, I get hit by 2 torps in the side and take on no water while only having my rocket launches damaged. Survived the whole match and ended in 1st, lol.
Yea, I’ve had some weird “unrepairable breaches” in other ships that take 15 minutes to sink. I know for the SKRs they changed the reload rate and overheat times in order to lower the overall firepower.
This damage change for HE shells is unusual, but I’m glad to see HE doing something now. People are acting like a volley of 8 5 inch HE shells with 3.2 kg of explosive each detonating near the waterline of a destroyer wouldn’t absolutely rip one up. I understand the damage vs heavy cruisers and battleships is pretty bad, but I feel like the destroyer/frigate gameplay makes a bit more sense. I also haven’t been able to “nuke” light cruisers with my battleship’s HE shells, so I feel like the system really needs some tuning.
Battleship SAP has been doing some crazy things, the HE not so much. Yesterday, I had a SAP round hit the top of another battelship’s turret and it popped him. I know none of the rounds hit lower because I over shot and all but 2-3 hit behind him.
I am not sure about if it makes more sense. But gameplay wise, it still needs balancing. SKR will melt destroyers before they can even realise what is happening. Plus the US dds with the 5in can do similar things.
I do think the pre-update HE was way nerfed. But there are clearly some big issues that need to be worked on.
Yea, the SKR is a thorn in my side because I am going through spading my low br vehicles for the US and the destroyers are just about unusuable because of that. The 4.7 destroyers will be pretty easy though, i tried the Frank Knox to get an idea of how effective the HE was and absolutely wrecked.
Just what is going on for them to do this? Don’t they know that the TTK is already horrendously low even before this patch?
Here’s the funny thing, not to be outdone but Air RB completely ruined radars and SARH gameplay, as well as taking away agency from the players by limiting controls. It’s just, why are they doing this all of a sudden?
I mean, judge for yourself but the guy has a point. Things had gone too far the other way and some vessels were just unkillable, like Scharns and the SKRs. They did need to be balanced down.
He does say the repair bug needs to be fixed, the server issues need to be sorted out, and the armor holes need to be fixed.
Has it swung too far? Maybe. Was it bad timing with the event? Well it was if you had a plan for SKR-spamming and this broke it, absolutely.
I’ve really enjoyed the last five days actually, looking forward to the next ten. Queue times have been great, servers have been rock-solid at low-tier, bots are minimal, and he’s right, there’s a lot more variety in the play now as people faff about and try new vehicles rather than just stick to the meta.
I think it makes things more accessible and interesting for newer players. I’ve been able to do just as well even though my ships are easier to kill. Experienced players can still wallop ships like the Moffet, but now ships that were near impossible to kill like the SKRs and Gearing class ships can actually be widdled down in a reasonable amount of time. I haven’t seen the heavier ships get killed by destroyer HE shells, or even heavy cruiser HE yet, and I wasn’t noticing a difference using the 12 inch HE shells against cruisers and battleships either. I’m going to try some 6.0 Germany and see what my Admiral Hipper can manage tonight.
Im of agreeance that the new shrapnel change needs to be toned down but not so much as to make HE useless again, but ignoring armor and as much as I despise DESPISE Scharnhorst me racking those things with my 152 AP on Fuso is a bit ridiculous, something needs to be done with Cruiser spam as well where possible.
When it comes to the bugs it is beyond annoying to have to deal with CONSTANT Gun Breech damage throughout a match
Naval is completely ruined now, it use to be the game mode I could play to relax, now it’s just an annoying arcade feeling pile of trash. if they don’t fix this I’m done with the game.
Yeah, its so nice to sail around in a big battleship, and having a audiobook in the background.
Now its just you spawn, get 9-13 HE 155mm rounds in your face, start to burn, try to halfway turn away and by the time your fire is out, you get another barrage of 155mm rounds and start to burn again while you are already at 30 percent crew left.
They literally turned Naval with this update into that you know other game.
About the SRKs, thx to the new damage model they are perfect kill stealers… I wondered why I see so much in a battle and tested it myself. Before u have to reload you can bring down any cruiser down to 50 % crew, so if you wait until you have any ship with less than 40 % crew you can kill it in seconds.
So I will exploit this in the near future to it full extend, obviously some players like this new damage model and the kill stealer bot, so lets bring them on the receiving end of this.
And it looks as if they have changed the damage model again, I have to test it on BBs but on a BR 5.3 cruiser I do not get ammoracked so often in a full uptier. And no unrepairable breach so far
edit : My impression, they reverted the new dmg model, survived an encounter with a Scharnhorst at 4,
3 km distance in a Lorraine, crew loss after 4 received volleys as expected, no unrepairable breach
SKRs were always the kings of DPS. The trouble was that was combined with a nearly empty hull so AP could do nothing against them and HE used to be useless. So they’d live forever too. Combined with their AA ability there was no counter: you just had to hope your team saw them as the greatest threat and worked with you to eliminate them first, and then figure out how to win the game with whatever you all had left over.
This update has brought up their DPS some, but it also made HE effective against them, so now there’s real counter-plays. Most 3.7 destroyers can kill them now if they can stay unengaged long enough.
Another meme vehicle that’s been hurt by this that people used to spam was the PG 02, again, nearly empty hull and poor HE DPS made it very hard to kill in the time it likely gave you to try. Now they’re falling left and right. Still a very useful boat in a lineup, but not the only thing worth taking out at 3.3 anymore. This is a good result of an update that has admittedly been a mixed blessing.
Since “alpha strike” update all goes relatively ok on naval for me. But after this, i feel and see so many bugs in there. Mainly in damage models all around.
Before patch i feel ships can sustain more income damage so i play very agressive. And now i really cant because doesnt matter in which ship i am sittin, i am dying in the few moments.
For example eugen, before alpha he was weak but take some hits, now i am dying just right away after few shots. So personally thinking about some unforeseen changes, which are not investigated properly. But sadly, naval event is here.
And i am not talking about new bugs (for me atleast), like “measuring range” stop on the end and thats it, nothing happen. Or neverending REcalculating after measurement ends, and again nothing happen. Who knows what exactly happening all around in naval, but for me it is become less fun very much.
I haven’t ventured to higher tiers yet to see how thats going but playing this morning it does feel like there were some huge changes done outside fixing the infinite repair thing.
SKR can strip the superstructure off things still and do damage to the hull and its internals but they aren’t liquidating things instantly and DD with SAP or AP are winning fights despite not getting the first shot off.
I’m not seeing catastrophic flooding from the crew keeping every hatch open either and my DD are actually tanking multiple salvos without loosing compartments.
The HE slingers are doing damage still but they aren’t eating everything the instant they see them
There was also this datamined yesterday
Curious to see what others think since that some 270mb patch dropped this morning
Was focused by multiple BB and cruisers, took a lot of fire and not a hint of permanent flooding, the salvos of HE that US cruisers were throwing were more annoyances than anything else.
As many has mentioned, the “impressive” hole was resulted from 1000lbs bombs, something tremendously more powerful than any shells that can be fired from a naval gun, so it’s entirely relevant to the discussion. Not to mention, despite looking impressive the ship didn’t take fatal damage from it. Since finding a picture would only takes you a few seconds it would not makes your statement more trustworthy than Royal Naval’s Shell Committee spending a few months with comprehensive amount of live-ammunition trials which led to conclusions that HE shell was completely useless against any heavily armoured vessels, and should be removed from capital ship’s arsenal.
Unfortunately we now live in a time when short video clips dominate our internet and social media, and ppl fetishising cheap grandstanding viewpoints from simple and “impressive” facts, instead of spending an hour or two to sit down a read something comprehensively and insightfully informative.
