Naval EC should not become another version of standard Naval Battles

Because most of what real ships did would be considered “PvE content” in this game. Essentially we’re all playing big slow bombers floating on the waves, with no actual objectives beyond “see thing? now make it so you don’t see it anymore.”

All I personally want to do is go shoot bots with my ships, and EC allows me to do that.

About the sole reason I even consider playing RB anymore for ships is when I want to torpedo unaware DDs via the lack of idiotmode markers.

Dude, i mag exploded enemy battleships in realgarbage battles in the first salvo after match start in a full turn. multiple times. Im telling you you just need to get used to it. If you dont want to do that, because you don’t like the learning curve, fine thats no problem. just play arcade. or WoWs.

You full turn after match start, wait till the guns swung around. wait for the firing solution of the target you have locked and prepare to shoot ahead of the chevron about 200 to 300 m closer than the reading distance. ONLY when guns have swung around you wait while turning for firing solution to update. at the second it updated thats the correct lead and distance for the guns at that moment for your ships vector at that moment relative to the enemy ships vector. so you shoot just in that second it updates. His distance -2 or 300. most enemies sail straight at match start, somewhat diagonally towards you. your salvo will land 200 m closer than he was at the second you got the firing solution which on medium range map is somewhat the right closing distance. Longer maps: 300-400 m, ec sometimes even 600 or 700 m closing distance.

You can reliably hit specific areas of enemy ships at distances your ships guns work at considering flighttime and firing arc. if you know how. Even in a full turn. You just cant shoot whenever you feel like it and expect the enemy ships range to be 100% correct, because, surprise. The dudes in the Pagoda of the Yamato didnt have a modern laserrangefinder that updates the exact distance like 50 times a second with an error of less than a cm.

PvE killed War Thunder fleet. PvE players should ask for a dedicated game mode, but without taking away the last mode that PvP players have.

Good for you that you make an objectively bad system work.

I was in fact trying this. And the result was my rounds spraying all over the place in front of or behind the target until I was at practically point blank range. Granted, perhaps its the reserve-tier German 105mm guns that are terrible.

I used to enjoy RB, but I recall it didn’t always have this weird-ass aiming system. Before what it currently has got added I didn’t mind it. But upon seeing the night-and-day difference between AB and RB’s, I plainly see AB’s as just better.

Plus all the player-equivalent bots and the bot-scripted farmers are using AB logic in their aiming anyways.

No, the obsession with PvP did. Real ships did a bunch more things the mode currently doesn’t represent. All those objectives need adding to the game mode and intentionally need to spawn frequently.

We already have convoy escorts, but we also need surprise attacks of enemy ships in port, shore bombardments to cover landing operations, and those are just a couple I can immediately think of. Just like the aircraft tech trees, not every ship type is well-optimized for PvP combat, and therefore the mode needs objectives suited to these instead of rendering them target practice.

Really the obsession with PvP has stunted the potential of every single game mode. Ships just feel it most painfully.

Oh, really? Maybe Gaijin should add mechanics and activities FIRST?

Please, just stay in your hangar and represent “the fleet in being”

Not my problem if you’re obsessed with having dick-measuring contests with people, man. Because that’s all I see PvP itself as. Sometimes yes it can be entertaining. But having only that to do is boring.

If i will meet you in EC it will be your problem

I dont have anything against good PvPvE mechanics in the EC. But now all fleet PvE is just Gaijin bots, it is not interesting at all, it is like PvP with monkey

So, I might be wrong to paint everyone with the same brush, but to me, any PvE fan in the fleet is someone obsessed with endlessly grinding bots for the sake of grinding bots.

Cool, if you kill me, whatever then. I’ll just spawn elsewhere and do some actual other objective if it exists.

And given planes are still arbitrarily barred behind SP walls despite literally everything being stacked against them as can be possibly done, I’m glad there are SP pools that sometimes shoot back to go kill. I really don’t want to ruin anyone else’s day - I just want to enjoy the vehicles themselves doing things they were actually meant to do. For example, surprising people and obliterating them before things always degenerate into dumb slugfests. Or using planes to torpedo the Cargo Ships and slowly work towards getting the Sea Hunter and Sea Dog titles.

I have simply done PvP for so many years that it doesn’t interest me that much. Doubly so when a vehicle class is clearly built for something non-PvP in nature but is forced into being an awkward mess everyone clowns on.

I find it more entertaining than PvP because we all know the Naval grind sucks. Snail is certain to ruin the seemingly-good earnings of EC in future patches. I don’t want to ruin anyone else’s day - I want to upgrade my vessels in peace, go do things other than mind-numbing PvP, and just…relax.

I similarly want to see Bombers and Attackers in Air RB given their plethora of missing objectives for the exact same reason. PvP should be optional for those who like it. Me? I’ve played this game enough that it just doesn’t thrill me anymore.

A cooperative mode—rather than classic EC—would clearly be the right fit for you. So why not ask for that on the forum instead of rejoicing that PvP players have been deprived of their last refuge?

Because asking Snail for more game modes hasn’t exactly gone very well for a long time. Instead the existing mode needs to be adjusted to a PvE focus - you can still PvP if you want but that alone should not be winning the day. Just like what I recommended to reform Air RB for years.

Admittedly, if I could earn RP in Custom Battles, even just a quarter of what the PvP mode has, I would jump there in a heartbeat.

And how is it going?

My point exactly. Snail does what crazy thing Snail seems to want in this given second prior to the heat death of the universe.

It IS flat-out easier to add stuff to existing modes than it is to insist on new ones being added.

It has its drawbacks, yes but it’s not that bad. While not visible to the player, I am almost 100% certain at this point that there’s an invisible dot the game uses for the AI gunners.

And just like realistic, it doesn’t immediately update which is why shots sometimes go wide. And no, I don’t mean into the next country despite the target not changing course.

Ship maneuverability and responsiveness is almost 50% better than it is in Realistic. In most cases at least.

That’s an MMORPG, not a ship-based combat game.

We really going to ignore the elephant in the room and blame PvE/PvP?

What killed warthunder fleet is the constant reworks on mechanics (Simplification of armor, flooding, damage control) and the lack of actual good and goodsized maps.

And despite that, the mode is still limping along.

But in case of ARB Snail was not listening to you

It’s somehow still limping along due to “new ship smell” for the time being. But it will burn itself out once most practical ship types get added and the modern era of “missiles, missiles everywhere” becomes a thing.

And yes, flooding is what actually sunk most ships, but ingame for the sake of arbitrary counterplay they made it a crew HP system instead.

Not just the maps, but the objectives we do on those maps. Fundamentally warships did one of the following at any given time:

  1. shoot at other ships
  2. board cargo ships suspected of carrying banned goods
  3. surprised enemy ships in port and sunk them there
  4. hunted submarines
  5. conducted coastal bombardments
  6. destroyed coastal fortifications to cover shore landing operations
  7. patrol patches of sea in case anyone is trying to sneak somewhere
  8. carry stuff from port to port

In essence, warships are much closer to Bombers or Attackers in Air RB than they are to Fighters. But the game mode forces them into a quasi-Fighter sort of environment.

Correct - I generally don’t bother trying to convince them anymore. Instead I am assembling ideas to hopefully be used on a future private server once this game slides downhill enough that it dies, as all MMOs eventually do without a lot of effort.

If Naval EC becomes more popular, and allows for more players, and as someone said “remove SP for aircraft”, I imagine big potential for huge fleet battles which would be pretty cool.

Frankly my dream game mode would be to use Naval EC as a base and add both player aircraft and player tanks to it. A map such as Saipan would be ideal for such a purpose as a testbed. Or hell even the Port Moresby map that already has standard Air EC mechanics in the large section of the map that ships cannot go onto. Allow player tanks to spawn where the Ground Engagements occur. Let them go pop the bunkers and bot tanks. Let people race around in open space with their armored cars to find and melt land convoys, or paint them for naval bombardments if they’re close enough. Let large ships deploy landing craft that move forward like torpedoes until destroyed or hitting beaches - if they do the latter they create player tank spawn points.

Essentially capturing ports would be a multistage operation. First ships neutralize any opposing vessels, then they do the same with coastal artillery. Then LCs are deployed, and stuff like LCSs can have their real world purpose escorting them into areas too shallow for big ships. They hit the mud, create tank spawn points, then players can play as tanks to hunt targets inside the port zone, capturing territory further inland. Once a proper coastal beachhead is established, friendly convoys spawn that act as mobile spawn points so tanks can spawn further inland. Thus you literally push the front line inland yourself. If you’re within range, bluewater ships function as your artillery support (maybe the logic behind using drones in Combined Ground or Scout planes in Naval could be adapted here) where you spot something with a tank or plane, tag over to the ship which is pre-aimed at that spot, shoot, watch the shells travel, so on and so forth.

So, because you dont want to learn naval rb aiming, and for some reason beyond my understanding cant just play arcade, that you prefer anyhow, naval rb should be changed for you?

I dont think so…

Thats some entitlement man, if you prefer arcade, just play arcade…whats the problem?

What is wrong with wanting the ability to surprise people that RB currently has via no markers paired with guns that actually aim where you aim them without constantly fighting the interface like AB has?

That is what I want.
