NATO tank loading times

I have a question why is it that NATOs tanks never actually reload the rate they actually do for example it is seen most NATO tanks can fire and reload much faster than 5 aeconds its most accurately shown when a challenger 2 fires 3 shots in 12 seconds meaning it should fire after 4 seconds not the 5
In this youtube link it is shown:

Even tanks like the leopard 2 are seen to be loading at around 5 seconds

Aswell as the abrams

Based on this why dont NATO manual loading tanks have much faster loading times or is this all just a balancing gimmick??

Reload rates are subject to balance and not historical accuracy.

Reload times are used for “balancing”. It is also really hard to get a truly accurate number because too many factors to consider. They dont accept video evidence either as it can be sped up (they had that problem in the past)

Though they suck at actually using it for that. For a while the Challenger 2 had a faster reload rate for balance, now everyone else has the same reload rate, but more armour, mobility and better shells. All with bigger ammo racks and yet the Challenger 2 still has the same fire rate and they wont increase it.

you cant model random human ability in manual reloading, besides humans cant keep a consistent speed up due to fatigue. So if you want your reload rate to start at 4 seconds and by the 5th shot go down to 8 seconds and by the 10th shot go down to 10 seconds if you want something closer to real life reload speeds. Somethings have to be done in regards to balancing.

This is a game not a mock up of real life. Real world stats are used as a base but for entertainment and balancing things will never be 100% real life accurate.

Yep… Though… I’ve always thought that having manual loaders have a slightly faster reload when stationary vs moving would be kinda cool and not too hard to model or balance fairly. As quite often that is one of the bigger factors for reload rates.

Also perhaps enable lap-loading? So you get 1 round at much higher reload rate, but it replenishes after the ready rack and has a notable Cooldown.

lap loading equals ammo explosion if you hit the loader

In something like a Challenger 2, it does anyway :D

aka your tanks dont have the worlds best loader in it just a regular loader : )

Not really though, a Regular loader can easily reload faster than the times in game and keep that speed for about 6-8 shots.

And the loaders in game have even worse times at the start until you level the Crew up to expert crew. So its not even a regular loader, its an Expert/ACE.

Yeah once you expert/ace you get a worse than irl loader which is odd, but they need to balance it to make autoloaders favorable. Only example of this not being true is probably the sturm tiger where you load much faster than real life.

That’s not true though, most autoloaders are slower or at the same speed as manual loaders.
The only advantage they had was that when the loader died they kept reloading, but since the update where the autoloader is modeled that is longer an advantage.

it isn’t really that odd, its to balance the game so that its’s actually still fun to play. Reload seems like the most logical place to do that.

Another problem is experting and acing crews in the first place I have many nations at or near high tier where like 2-3 of my 5-6 crew slots dont have maxed reload that right there makes auto loaders favorable. You have to MAX out your crew before you tip the scale to make auto loaders not favorable. Reload is a logical place to do it… except when it takes months if not years to fully max out all of your crews; this is clearly a way to force people to pay to max crews.

No.
It depends on the tank, the Abram’s and Challengers both start at 6.5s reload as a base (the same as USSR autoloaders) and only get better from there. But the Leopards start at 7.8 and only pass the USSR tanks at Expert level.
So as i said: most autoloaders are slower than most manual loaders (some exceptions ofc).

And to get Expert crew in a country doesn’t really take that long. i got max reload and expert crew on the us tanks in about 4 months (with premium acc and around 15 games per day, so say about 8 months for non premium acc). I started US rank 1 and got to the top in about 3.5-4 months and at that time i had expert crew on 4 slots (the 5’th is a heli).

Edit:
Mistakenly listed Leclerc as manual loader.

You got a point, I’ve asked a former Chieftain crew, who said lap reload was technically ‘forbidden’ due to safety reasons but people do it anyways, never the less people will get annoyed saying that tanks running at 60km/h will reload at exactly the same rate.

When you talked about leopard surpassing USSR auto loaders I assume you mean T-80 style, but with T-72 style which is far more common such as spotted in British tree, many Chinese, loads in Russian tree and maybe in the future Japan when they receive Thai VT4, the loading speed is surpassed simply with a full upgrade on loader. Although speaking of Japan, he might have included the Leclerc and Type-90/10 with auto loaders so that will make the average autoloader much faster.

True :)

I mean type 90 could technically do 3s per round, but never the less, balancing issue :P. It does mean no ammo explosion though and makes the entire thing a lot more playable even with useless armour.

It’s balanced by realism when it suits them and it’s balanced for gameplay when it suits them.

And you say that doesn’t take very long? jesus christ. Reminds me of people that are like “It only takes me 6 months to grind an entire tank line” While playing every single day 10 hours a day with premium vehicles and premium account.

That’s how it should be they should have that mentality when it comes to experimental/paper tanks.
