NATO fixed wing cas dead for good?

Before anything if you are a CAS hater “good riddance” type dont bother to comment, i want a serious discussion.

So i have been trying to play the F-15E and Typhoon to see how really absurd the new SAM systems are and honestly it feels like an april fools event, Pantsir and IRIS-T were already very powerful in holding back any cas other than KH-38 carriers, and even then the IRIS-T gave them a run for their money.

But now its just silly, 2/3 players with SAM systems up can put tens of extremely fast, fnf missiles in the air and you have nothing but very slow and non-tracking gps/laser guided munitions and slow mavericks with terrible tracking, and in my experience even doing everything perfectly to survive will just end up with your slow, clumsy munitions getting intercepted anyway.

And not to mention CAP that can easily sneak up on you while you are trying to figure out how to find the SAM vehicles and also dodge the tens of missiles coming your way. I also had some maps were a BUK or an Aster can get to you in about 5 seconds from spawn because you only spawn around 13km away.

I have seriously never in my life seen such insane levels of powercreep, its as if the game is turning into some silly mod, and it has slowly started ever since they added things like the Pantsir and Kh-38 but now the leaps they are taking are just absurd. There should be a rock paper scissors element to these vehicles, not ‘i spawn my vehicle and i get a list to click on and thus you cant play yours’, that’s such incredibly stupid game design, the Pantsir at least had an element of player input with missile guidance.

So what is to be expected in the next patch, kinzhal for Russia? AARGM-ER for USA? not like any of those would even fit the game, fix anything or make the gameplay experience better but at least they would fit with Gaijin’s insane leaps in tech…

Typhoon is just sad to use, so many other alternatives. No FNF IR Munition, only FNF munition you get is GNSS ones.

Flagship fighter for 3 Nations but dog compared to counterparts.

Its time for ARM and MMW. Hopefully they dont sit on them for years

Still the same, fly low,pop up,multipath the ARHs and notch em. EFT/Rafale still have edge against anyone with two braincells.

Maybe its worth suggesting the addition of propelled decoys like the ADM-20, -141 or -160.

ARMs are coming probably next or the patch after next.

Wont really help, the maps are still too small, and the nature of the engagement just doesn’t make sense, these SAM systems cover up to 50km effectively and 100km in optimal conditions, with tiny ground rb tank battlegrounds and short match duration you need to spawn within 20km which is absurdly close and gives you no room to asses the situation and look for were the SAM sights are and what CAP is up.

The entire idea of long range SAM systems (and long range fnf missiles like the KH-38) just doesn’t fit the scale of game at all, to an absurd degree, they dont even have a place in air rb or sim let alone ground rb that is still scaled for ww2 vehicles. Again they feel like an april fools event more than anything…

Sure hug the ground and fly circles 20km away from the battlefield, have no situational awareness whatsoever because you cant peak up for more than 5 seconds because a mach 5 missiles will get to you, so panickly dump your pitiful subsonic payload on vague gnss positions or snap locks and have them all easily get intercepted (btw a cas player has to do all that fancy stuff to not immediately blow up while the spaa player is just clicking on a list). A very effective rock paper scissors mechanic, peak gameplay… totally a lack of braincells on my part…

Not to mention having to use all of your ordinance that costs tons of SP to try and destroy a few of the AA that a team can easily spawn over and over, basically removing the point of CAS in the first place anyway because it has no more influence on the match.

No,the only thing that changed is, bad pilots cant do CAS anymore cause they die. Good ones are still nuking the new SPAA left and right. By flying the same as before with Pantsir and IRIS-T. But yes,i agree that SPAA should go up in SP cost, cause you spawn 972 SP plane against multiple 70 SP SPAA.

Gaijin did say that HARM is coming in the near future, so I guess that’s your only chance against the new SAMs. Hugging the ground and gun running them also works great, most of the new SAMs can’t deal with close and low flying targets.

HARM is technically in the game already in the form of Kh38 with their GNSS guidance and GNSS guided bombs

That’s just disconnected from reality to a delusional degree…
Go hop in a Rafale or an F-15E and see for yourself

This will continue to plague the game, the WW2 scale maps with present day weaponry will never work. Maps and game modes need to be completely overhauled for this type of weaponry to be even considered in the first place. Top tier and even WW2 are suffering greatly because modern weaponry and vehicles keep creeping up and entering areas they shouldn’t be in, think of the VIDAR at 7.7 or PzH 2000 at a similar BR.

I just hope that it is addressed sooner or later, I just don’t see myself playing this game until GRB and GSB get re-imagined for a modern setting.

I both agree and disagree.

Whilst yes, maps are woefully too small. It opens new ways for existing aircraft to engage a threat. ARM for example will hopefully be LOAL. That will allow a method of attack without exposing yourself to these long ranged SAMs and give teeth to previously quite weak CAS aircraft (Tornado GR4 with 9x ALARM would be a force to be reckoned with)

i wonder how Gaijin is going to fix this because map big enough for the modern AA will make tank gameplay boring cuz u gotta drive SO far and people don’t want to do that. CQC map are a little too small for tanks and not really playable for modern AA.

Move AA spawn further back? Remove map dead zone (25 second count down until forcing you to J out if you don’t get back into the map) only for AA so they can have more room to hide and move around? Not sure how they will handle it.

I understand but if we get to the point were cas has to use most if not all of its expensive ordinance just to counter dirt cheap AA, then there is simply no point in using it at all. I only see ARMs being actually interesting in air rb or sim if Gaijin actually bothered to make anything decent out of those game modes

It is a video game at the end of the day, why can’t bigger maps have FOBs or make captured points spawnable like in any other conquest style game like BF? They could even look at SQUAD for inspiration. Bigger maps can exist if properly implemented with new game modes.

Dynamic spawns that change location, spawning on capture points, certain spawn locations for SAM and for tanks etc…
There are many ways to actually make a interesting well designed game with the mechanics we have, but Gaijin insists on staying with the game modes that have the quality and depth of a game made by 2 amateur game devs in a basement

yea there is a lot of things Gaijin can fix/introduce to make the gameplay better overall. We’ll have to wait and see I guess

It just baffles me how they insist on shoving all of these new vehicles and weapons with every patch while doing absolutely nothing to actually make them fit in the game, they have been doing this for almost a decade now, i dont think they will do anything about this at all. Their focus is clearly on maximizing income and additions per patch that grab attention, and once the money starts drying up they will just shut down like many MMOs before.
