IMPO it takes no skill. I have a 5 year old niece and he makes 3 kills with AIM-120 and he never plaayed this game. Im telling you you have radar with:
max distance
best distance (100% kill zone)
distance from enemy plane
position od enemy plane
And to defend you have:
unreliable RWS (picks all missiles not just ones that aim for you)
unreliable multipathing
unreliable notching
unreliable chaffs
Look I just say shooting 8 AIM-120B minute after match starts cant be compared with defending from them… And again until this is equalised top tire will be a joke for me, no skill just spamm and here and then really good dog fights.
Can somewhat agree on the RWR part, although gaijin models radar lobes, so it could be realistic
unreliable multipathing doesn’t bother me, it was just an easy escape button taking no skill whatsoever. Fox3 ? just ignore and continue pressing on your target
Notching and Chaffs are reliable, but due to the radar lobes from the missile, you are only sure if it worked at close distances only.
At longer ranges you can just go cold for a bit and drain the missile from its energy
I won’t deny that evading missiles takes more skill than firing them, so what ? Different eras and game modes require different skills : Ground RB is more about setting up ambushs and aiming at low tier, Naval is mostly about aiming, low air is more about dogfighting and high tier air is more about missile evasion tactics and global awareness
So I dont take top tire seriously or skill in any way shape or form… thats all I want to say. Like I get it game will cater people who want more kills I just say kills in top tire are zero skill, thats all.
Welcome to modern air combat and this is how it works
nobody gonna prove how skillful they are in dogfight anymore top tier it about missile and avionics not dog fight like WW2
if you want more kills, you need to survive, and to survive you need to evade, so they kind of are ?
And as i said, firing a missile while not knowing what you are doing won’t work
But at the end of the day, top tier is indeed quite different from what there is before, so i can understand why it’s not everyone’s thing (hey at least it means reduced grind, got to see it on the bright side X))
Understanding but unfortunately when you survive and try to engage everyone is 99% of time already dead… and thats problem.
Again 5 year old can do that especially with Aim-120
I love the planes and Im grinding to research as many planes I can and then Im gonna just play SIM…since thats what I see as skill in this game. Just would love if this game had more content and not always same thing.
Multipatthing only works above a certain height, and below 60m. This is realistic based on how radar reflection worked IRL, as if you were on or kissing the ground, you were essentially right on/above the reflection.
Multipathing irl rn is pretty much below 10 m for pretty much all SARH and ARH since radars and seekers are able to differentiate between ground clutter and the target
The most effective way to defeat Fox 3 irl is terrain masking (using terrain to defeat an incoming missile by hiding you plane behind terrain to make the missile lose track), notching and going cold
Notching irl is also harder since datalink is much more efficient and allows the missile to reconnect if it loses lock which is something we only have on R 27 in game
Am happy it’s the only missile that has that function since all Fox 3s are supposed to have it but for obvious reasons they don’t
Yeah then cant have FOX-3 as realistic as you can, they need to be avoidable and not like you need to have 2000 hours of flying F-16 in real life to avoid them
Realistic have their fun on its own it not just for every type of players
DCS for example why people still playing it when it more realistic and harder to play than this game
or Dark souls that so hard to the point some players won’t even be able to play yet some people love it
And it is impossible to make game for every type of players
