According to the old development post, a player cannot spawn on an airfield with fully destroyed airstrip, which means the enemies just can’t respawn anymore after all airstrips are destroyed. However in a few battles, they can somehow still respawn after my team wiped out all airstrips.
My question is: Is the old post outdated? Is there any “official” explanation that how the modular airfields work now?
The screenshot below shows an example. All the enemies were able to respawn even after all the airstrip modules became black.
Airfields have never worked like the dev post said. It says even destroyed (black) modules should repair slowly. They might sometimes, but usually they don’t. It says destroyed (all modules black) airfields will not disappear; they do, although on one occasion only (the other day) I have seen an airfield remain on the map with 4 black modules.
Are you sure enemies were respawning, and not just landing, repairing, refuelling and rearming? Although airfield don’t behave as advertised, destruction of individual modules does usually do what it’s supposed to do.
After the Firebirds update there are some issues with airfields. There are some maps where airfields are mixed, new and old type airfields. The old type of airfields have no AA defence (I think it’s a bug and there are some bug reports).
Airfields have 4 modules marked with 4 green rectangles or square. These modules are: airstrip, Residential zone (repair other modules), fuel warehose and hangars.
First you have to destroy the repair module which can repair itself quickly. If you destroy it, it will never repair again. Then you can destroy airstrip, and other modules. Then the airfield disappear.
But, if someone destroy module other than Residential zone in first place, then the damaged module will be repaired quickly.
It used to be like that, and that is how it’s supposed to work (sort of - everything is supposed to repair, albeit slowly, even without the repair module). However, for a while, apparently, there was a bug which caused nothing to repair at all until the repair zone had taken some damage, so it was best not to damage the repair zone. Don’t know if they ever fixed that, but, TBH, repair has never worked as described most of the time; usually modules simply do not repair, although occasionally I have seen modules regain health.
To the OP, maybe players get a single spawn if there are no spawn point available and they have no already-spawned aircraft at some airfield? Don’t know really and would be mildly surprised if Gaijin had thought of the possibility that all spawn points could be destroyed without the game ending, although with jet bombers on three-airfield maps it must happen frequently, so maybe they did create some fix for that possibility?
As for these players, I often play on the Denmark map. On my side, one airport was completely destroyed, but still existed on the map. You could land there, from what players wrote in the chat. You could spawn there, for example, Ju-288 or He-177, which spawn in the air on this map.
