Mitsubishi F-2

F-2A Super Kai was never built, Only on paper. If I recall due to american interference prompting them to purchase the F-35A instead of going ahead with the super kai program

Yes but Japan has basically nothing else of their own air force until the F-35, so in this case the super kai seems very legitimate to me. Yes it’s a paper plane, but a paper plane much more legit that the F-16AJ

Japan did trial some aircraft, few notable being the Mirage, F-14A Blk 135 and F-111. Could add that to spruce up the air tree

As well as implementing the later variant’s of the previous aircraft (Late version of F-1/T-2/F-4EJ/F-4EJ Kai)

Ok they tried some foreign aircrafts, but what’s better: copypasting aircrafts from others nations which Japan never used, or add a plane that was cancelled but is Japanese tech?
Even though the Super Kai was never built, it could’ve been and at least it’s somewhat unique.
The copypaste aircrafts could be added, but rather as premiums

well most of modern japanese air is just “copy paste” due to it adopting US aircraft

the thing that would make it different, visually same. how it performs and what it has is different

also yes the super kai was never built. And it would be really fuckin amazing if they added it. However the problem here is mains from other nations would cause a whole shitfest over it

True I guess, but in the case of Japan it’s legitimate to give them the super kai since it’s not less real than the AJ they currently have

Considering we have an M47 in the ground tree that was only used to study and compare it to the STA prototypes at the time, it seems entirely feasible to me that they could add that.

Just gotta wait and see what gaijin decides at this point

Which specific variants of the Mirage and 111 did they trial? I’ve heard about the Mirage before (think it was an F1C?) but never the 111.

Which F-111 given this was the 1970/late 60’s I think its the F-111A(?)

F-2 Late with J/APG-1 doesn’t make any sense. I expect F-2 Late with AAM-4 and AAM-3 for now, and AAM-4B and AAM-5 added later. There is also a chance that we won’t see these missiles on F-2 at all, and get smth like F-15J JSI with them

Late F-2s have the J/APG-2, and are about the only ones we could get in game at this point.

Perhaps it is time for more advanced weapons now? Seeing how so many planes are now being artificially kept at their weakest due to the weapons they get.

There’s so many top tier jets that irl use much more modern AIM-120s, AIM-9X, IRIS-T, Python 4s and 5s, etc. If we get two version of the F-2 - one without ARH and one with ARH missiles, what can Japan get with AAM-B and AAM-5 later on? Will we have 3 F-15Js and F-2? Will US have 5 different F-15s, F-18s and F-16s? I don’t think grinding the same plane several times all over just because each has different weapons is much fun.

Why would they add a sparrow only f-2 now?

Perhaps as a lower BR premium option similar to the Hornet additions

Doesn’t exist, but a possible replacement is F-2 ADTW

There is two F-2 they can add as Sparrow only,
XF-2 and F-2 Early. I imagine F-2 Early would come as a premium, similar to F/A-18A and F/A-18C Early duo.

Nah I’d guess XF-2 as premium if anything, there’s no reason they’ll add a prototype when an operational equivalent exists

Do we have a prototype Premium w/ a tech tree equivalent? I feel like it’d be similar to Type 16 (P) / Type 16 (FPS).

Also, there is a reason.

Money! Hence why the Type 16 (P) / Type 16 (FPS) exists.
