Mitsubishi F-2

Was it ever said that radar can shoot ground targets

Looks like it wasn’t

It can’t use AGM-65
It is displayed together just because US military base placed there and no more theories should be speculated about it

I said that because the suggestion mod said it.
It shouldn’t, but it has an active radar that can lock ground target (probably infrastructure) and an identification system. So maybe not for tanks… But it can act as a missile to shoot “invaders on island” as said in documents. About the GNSS tho.

I said it can dubiously targett air targets, not ground ones.

So, in terms of raw, technical compatability. Mavericks could go on the F-2, due to common rail launcher compatability.

The issue is they’re “technically compatable” with the outside pylons, not the inside ones, which is very funny, and probably why its not used. The F-2’s wings may be comically strong, but i don’t think even they would like tip mavericks, lol.

Like actually compatible, as in the FCS can use it and not just a physical compatibility?

I think in gameplay if it was technically possible, then they generally allow it, regardless of maintenance concerns.

i dont think that putting a maverick on the edge of the wing would only be a maintenece concern

but rather your wing snapping off

Possibly, though those are some strong wings lol

So, I think its technically actually compatible, as IIRC mavericks use the same analog aiming cue system as most NATO AAMs, so it should be able to work. Although since as far as i’m aware the version (of the common rail launcher) japan uses doesn’t have a video signal out, it wont actually be able to see what the missile can before launching.

That being said, I really don’t think it would appropriate to be added in this case. Frazer-Nasch CRLs are a fairly common design, and giving every one every armament they can have would be out of hand. Like, so many random jets would get micas or asraams that never actually used them, just because they fit the launcher and are designed to work in degraded modes off of only analog cueing.

In theory not a problem since targeting pods.

To be fair, in this case at least, Japan has them in stock so it’s not a big stretch or new precedent

I recall an update patch before that increased the engine thrust for the f2. Is that accurate to IRL? I still feel that f2 is one of the slowest top tier jets still and was wondering if Gaijin could make it faster

It’s a fatter F-16 with more drag why would it be much faster?

Because irl it’s top speed is Mach 2 while it only reaches like Mach 1.83 in game

Interesting yes I see that now. 1.85 top speed.

To be fair it’s also overperforming in other areas.

Like for example it should have an aoa limit of only 22 degrees or so (even less than the f-16)

Instead it has insane stability up to like 40 aoa or something

yeah i’ve very comfortably in test flight been able to maintain 45 ish degrees AOA. This would make it better at pointing than the IRL FA-18A

I mean, its also underperforming in some areas, like its compression at speeds is much higher than it should be, considering there should be none at all.

my fellow pilot i meant just in only not recently. and i don’t think they would still make an MLU a public knowledge given the world’s state and how japan is building up it’s military investing up to 73B Dollars, so i don’t think they would want to show their cards yet
