I have to disagree here. Not having a HMD is very minor given the excellent radar.
Not sure what issues others are having but for me the F-2 radar has been bug free and very effective. I’ve been casually locking onto enemy Fox 3s and taking them down while switching back to main target through just TWS. In comparison, the F-15J(M)'s radar is frustrating to use and now feels too slow, which is telling as the APG-63(V)1 is a good radar set.
Personally, I think F-2 is a strong 13.7 but a weak 14.0, but ultimately could go either BR. I’m sure if it gets the AAM-4B it would get moved up in the future, especially if the F-15J(M) doesn’t get it for balance reasons (keeping something at 13.7 that is).
I don’t see why the F-15jm would not get AAM-4B if anything its the more future proof aircraft compared to F-2. i would argue giving the F-2 better missiles will just move its BR up against equally as good or better missiles and more of them on better platforms. only thing F-15JM doesn’t have over F-2 is the radar or pure dogfighting but its not as big of an issue. and once F-15JSI is out it will completely outclass F-2 besides CAS. i would say the F-2 would be the aircraft to stay at 13.7 while F-15JM moves up.l

Just to make the current F-2 as being unique and if AAM-4B do end up being very hard to defeat via notching/multipathing then they’d be a good answer to help F-2s BVR and make it a deadly aircraft to go against.
Realistically speaking they’re going to add another F-15 for AAM-5 and possible AAM-4B as they really don’t want to create gaps in BRs by moving things up. Perhaps they’ll add another F-2 for AAM-5 as well for the same reason.
It honestly hurts my soul every time someone reminds me the F-2A doesn’t have an HMD. Guess all we can do is sit tight and hope the Thai Gripen E or F-16 eMLU comes to save my ass.

Not quite true.
I wish they made the Aim-7P more widely available for other aircraft that support the platform, AIM-7M is Pain at 13.0 especially when R27ER has IOG+DL even at 12.3
(yes the F2A ADTW would also greatly benefit from Aim-7P)

As off now is expected: EPAWSS, JASSM(-ER), newer AIM-120s (maybe even D-3) and AESA Radar iirc. What else could be coming is either still up in air or speculation
Hope they upgrade the engine, but I’ve heard that Japan has a tight budget.
I wouldn’t expect many upgrades since the F-35s are meant to replace the F-2s, also don’t forget about their current fighter program with Italy and UK.

But fictionally it is Compatible right ? Radar that can use it and Pylons for it to be fitted to
I dont think so
same way the F-15J and MJ are compatible to use GBU-8’s etc however they simply do not carry it
it would me amazing to receive it however lets be realistic here we both know that is never gunna happen

But at least for the sake of Balance, there are many fictional Elements in the game already why not have a Rocket that is Suitable and operable on a plane to have it utilize it ?
because of that the R27ER is dominating most of the time it’s simply superior to AIM7M in every way possible
