There’s no way they’re going to introduce certain real, or claimed, attributes of modern military tech if it makes gameplay suck.
In the case of F-2, there’s only one other option to fly one and that’s Ace Combat. So yea, I’d rather they do what they need to, to bring the F-2 to the game, than hold off till it’s “complete” which could be a year or more.
From what I’ve seen it’s just F-16C with F-2 paint but I don’t know too much about DCS (AFAIK, DCS doesn’t model AESA at all). Regardless, that’s a bit more on the sim side and has a different focus, gameplay wise.
J/APG-1–> First gen AESA fighter radar…powerful though it did have some teething issues but still a good radar and first of its kind on a fighter.
J/APG-2–>2012ish upgrade introduce more advance features and the radar overall is stronger sadly not sure if there are pics on it though…
“Advanced integrated sensor system” or “F-X” Radar–> a 2018-2019 radar only found on one late XF-2A this radar is even stronger then J/APG-2 and was meant as part of Japans 5/6th gen fighter studies…this radar is even more suitable for detection of stealthy targets.
Those last 2 pics are great in showing the radar size with respect to the nose. I wonder what the APG-68 size is, in the event Gaijin needs convincing that it could fit into the XF-2 nose (though it’s not like they need to if they just use a prototype J/APG-1 for it).
so i heard that japan is developing a new kind of radar being able to not only map in front but aswell a full 360 degrees but i really cant find anything about this as much as i see people talking about it
Not sure about new kind of radar but what you described sounds like Kawasaki P-1 - it have AESA all over it and can form map while scanning. (All AESA are capable of scanning the ground tho, I don’t think mapping would require something special)
New AESA radar probably will be just more prescise and powerful. And will be put on F-X(F-3). It will have 360 RWR and could microwave incoming missiles but I don’t remember seeing anything about radar watching in all directions
I just realized something, which probably was mentioned before but, J/APG-1 is X band? That would mean no RWR in the game, AFAIK, can detect it. In the past that might not have been a concern and it would show up anyway, but with the RWR rework, this is actually a big advantage. Unless of course, it’s either not X band or Gaijin decides not to make it X band till later.
All AESA radars are silent on RWR I believe(Unless someone makes new generation RWR that uses different tech). They change frequency constantly and near indistinguishable from background noise. That’s one major advantage over some PESA radars.
“Since the AESA (or PESA) can change its frequency with every pulse (except when using doppler filtering), and generally does so using a random sequence, integrating over time does not help pull the signal out of the background noise”
This video is a good example of pulse difference between AESA and PD despite being a joke
Well that is what I expect since having a radar that doesn’t even ping you would be pretty strong in the game to the point that I don’t think they could ever add AESA unless there’s a way to detect them.
It’d still be super strong to be able to track targets without them knowing about it.
Right now it’s mostly a case of pros and cons. You can use radar to find targets but it also alerts them that you exist. If your radar now doesn’t ping RWR, you gain a lot of situational awareness and have no tradeoff. Just a straight upgrade. Maybe they will implement this since it’d be the only aircraft for the time being with it and it’d be limited to sparrows which I’d think still trigger RWR.
