Mitsubishi F-15J

I think it should be about 8t instead of 5 like in game

hated it when i saw that. had to remove 1 AIM-7M to make room.

You can report this and it will get fixed. When they added custom loadouts to other planes and you were missing from 40 to 200 kg from a loadout, Gaijn fixed it.

Its really not 40G, I believe nothing changed from the dev to live so its more like 32G but with a bit better range and less drag. You will only notice the better pull if you are going very fast.

Its still better than the 9M but still a tad unfortunate its only slightly better, but theres always room for it to be buffed in the future.

Wait really? It seems a little hard to believe that the F-2 wouldn’t be able to use a missile that entered service before it.

I’d imagine it’d have something to do with the F-2 being a ship attacker mostly? IIRC, one of the key requirements for the aircraft developed from the FS-X program was being able to carry 4 x ASMs? I could be wrong, but that was my understanding.

If so, I can see why Fox 3 was more of a retrofit to iron out any gaps in capabilities among aircraft in inventory.

Thats probably right as ASM was its main role, still seems weird that they would give it sparrow capability but not the ability to use the Fox-3 that already was in service.

However, I’m probably just massively oversimplifying the whole process.

more than likely it waas just being developed at the same time so they already had the radar done and it would have cost too much to re-do it. AFAIK there’s no visual differnce between the F-2 upgrades as it’s mostly just avionics so gajin could just add it either way, and just limit usable missiles.

Yea AAM-4(A) went into service in 1999 with the JASDF but was not used on their aircraft for sometime. Unlike AMRAAMS AAM-4s require the J/ARG-1 transmitter in order to be fully used. Something that only up untill late F-2s received. Its also why only F-15J msip can use AAM-4A/B because thats when they had their transmitters installed. And also why you won’t find F-2s with AAM-4s before ~2011

Article from around 2012 same time around when F-2As receive their upgrades to J/APG-2 radar https://defense-update.com/20120314_japan-making-its-f-2-fighter-fleet-more-lethal.html#google_vignette
“Comparable aircraft fitted with AESA employ a data link that transmits signals from the aircraft to an airborne missile using radar. The modified F-2’s will be outfitted with a separate data link transmitter, the J/ARG-1.”

This talks more about the AAM-4 itself but also what is required for it to be used.
https://web.archive.org/web/20060111142717/http://www.geocities.co.jp/Technopolis-Mars/9578/AAM-4.html

"The following is a summary of the modifications necessary to install the AAM-4 on the F-15.

C/C(Central Computer) OFP(Operational Flight Program)Renovation
Modification of PACS(Programmable Armament Control Set)
Radar OFP modification
Equipped with command transmitter(J/ARG-1)
Addition of BIT (self-diagnosis function) of the command transmission device to BCP (self-diagnosis function control panel)
AAI (Air to Air Interogate) transmission system modification (for missile command transmission)
Modification of RWR (Radar Warning Receiver) and ECM (Blanking when sending commands)
LAU-106A/A launcher modification (umbilical connector is shared with AMRAAM)"

“The biggest hardware difference between the AIM-120B installation modification and the AAM-4 installation modification is that a dedicated command transmission device (J/ARG-1) is required for AAM-4 operation. (In AIM-120B, command transmission waves are multiplexed from the FCS radar.)”

As you can see for both aircraft only after the installation of J/ARG-1 is AAM-4 able to be used.

Which is odd the JASDF took so long to do as it seems that both aircraft didn’t receive this modification untill later in the 2000s…

This a very nice website that lists the different modifications and modernisation programs.

ngl, wish F-15 J had more CAS options like rockets and such. Being limited to regular bombs a little sad.

Sadly for Japan CAS will always be a limited factor…

It’s the same for the other F-15 variants. It’s a limitation of the jet.

GCS-1 is in game files for a very long time, gaijin simply don’t want to implement it.
Also in theory you can shoot aam-4b at ground targets, I think I’ve read that somewhere.

Yeah but the issue i see with GCS is that even if they add it there is no targeting pod. I assume you drop it and it picks up the nearest heat signature right? So accuracy might not be great but i don’t know.

We’d be sooner to see L-JDAMs on an F-2 than seeing AAM-4b due to what it could do for air combat unfortunately.
