GCS-1 is a dumb bomb with IR targeting, it does not use targeting pod. You just drop it somewhere you expect enemies and it then automaticaly seeks targets with apropriate IR signature(It have IRCM and won’t go for burning wrecks). It is supposed to be used against ships but there are nothing that should prevent it from going for ground targets.
In theory it will work like laser guided bombs but instead of targeting it will choose target automatically when it gets close enough.
Only issue is that locking range and how wide seeker zone is we don’t know, so it can activate either 8 km away and scan for target whole GRB map or activate too close and you will get only like 100 aiming radius.
So in the end it is for gaijin to decide to make it the same usefulness as normal dumb bombs or one of the most OP bombs and that will make most of jp jets really good at CAS because it is basically the same 500\750lb bombs but with wings and you can take a lot of them.
And you have to remember japan can’t have good shit.
Couldn’t find a better tank image, think this one is painted to hide it from thermal cameras and such
Not sure if this is a good example. Tried searching for images of tanks and boats being viewed with IR camera and such to see what the GCS-1 might be looking for. So basically the Red area or hottest part of the tank/boat will be locked on by GCS-1 which will always be the engines.
Maybe this how this it looks like for boats, landing crafts?
Not sure how accurate this is or how close it is but if its using IR to find targets, it should be able to lock on them without issues. That’s just my thought. Hard to find hard info, but seems like common sense.
I was convinced by this
ahh now i understand this image after translating it lol Then yes, it should 100% be able to target tanks based on this from from my understamding. Japan just wont use these bombs in active cities since its crowded with tons of cars and people, buildings with power on emitting heat. So its why they probably mostly use it in sea vs boats to avoid unwanted misfire or accidental civilian casualties or going for the wrong target since there is no laser involved to make corrections.
In game, no issue, the parked cars are off, its a war zone so no building is emitting heat since they empty, no people, only tanks running around. The only way to survive or avoid a GCS-1 bomb is hiding in smoke before it gets close enough or turning off the engines to avoid detection seconds after its dropped or hide underneath or behind buildings. Another reasonnto add, some tanks can go on water soooo theres that, like a landingcraft lol Guidance method is an infrared radial reticle scan using an infrared CCD. Not much different on howb IR AAM locking onto a jet works but they used with camera. GCS-1 probably using a sensor.
According to some websites, they chose this method since there was no special modifications needed on their jets, designed for ground targets without posing much of a threat to active cities to surrounding countries, was a safer route to take to take out ships without “intentionally” seeking offensive capabilities. JDAM now exist on F-2 and F-35s but back then Japan was more strict on not getting obvious offensive capabilities. So GCS-1 was just safer and used mainly for self defence against landing crafts. For sure they can go offensive with it but they won’t say it in public lol Do correct me if im wrong.
It sounded like there was an internal report for it, not public. There was this bug report that was acknowledged but I’m unsure if it relates to the report David mentioned: Community Bug Reporting System
oh cool. I hope the missing functionalities get added to it eventually otherwise it just becomes a heavier F-15A with a missile that can pull 10g more and not much else.
First skin though a bit disappointed tbh…first it received no GE skins and then they pick not really the best of the aggressor skins in my opinion still its better then nothing.
I would have bought every single GE skin they gave it and I’m sure I’m not alone in that… They missed a pretty profitable opportunity.
I’m just hoping that they’re saving a lot of the better skins for some of the later models of the F-15 that we’ll inevitably see next year.
Does the F15J get a simmilar livery as the F-2A’s Oceanic Camouflage? Also coloured pylons and mutions would be cool but thats a minor detail.
I think this is closest but even still not really
I see, i didnt find anything that has the same colours, shame it would look very nice.
I think that picture is actually photoshopped:
Spoiler
Would be cool if there’s a blue camo though. It’s my favorite.
Whoa wtf
Likely did, since it was just a radar update and they both have the same radar.
It says IR + UV guidance. This should be useful for a report, but you’ll need an additional source I think.
