Mitsubishi F-15J

Sadly I do not know exactly how the lateral acceleration works, I asked Oshida the dataminer about it but he wasn’t sure either. You may have to ask Gszabi.

And I agree the lower wing area makes no sense.

I’ve played around with it in custom missiles before, my understanding is it appears to be the physical limitation of the missile while reqaccelmax is the guidance limitation of the missile. Like for example take a 20g missile and set reqaccelmax to 10g but put finlataccl to 20g the missile acts like a 10g missile, do the inverse and it still acts like a 10g missile, when both are 20g then it acts like a 20g missile. Though Im sure there is more to it since it seems redundant to have 2 lines of code doing the same job. Like for example with the Python 3 the finlataccel is like 31g or something but when set to 45g the missile doesnt appear to pull any better than the standard counterpart in side by side test fires. However this could also be due to the fact the Python 3 has a relatively low finAoA line of code for a >30g missile and without ways to physically measure how many G’s the missiles pull, if there are slight differences we wouldnt know.

edit: another take away could be diminishing returns above 30g without large increases in FinAoA

here is a test between 2 identical Python 3s, compared to the ingame python 3s these have been modified to have greater gimbal limits for ease of testing. Also their FinAoA has been cranked up a ton to 32.4 degrees (no conventional missile is gonna ever pull this much AoA) this was done because the differences at 19 degree AoA were unnoticeable, and at 27 degrees also almost unnoticeable, so I opted to make AoA very high so the difference between 2 finlataccels could be easier seen.

Parameters:
Control missile uses R-73 model, other than the model it is no different from the python 3 ingame beyond the changes mentioned above

Test missile uses Python 3 model, its finlataccel has been set to 45 (control missile is 31.2) other than that its no different from the control missile

Test: https://streamable.com/356bz2

conclusions: finlataccel does impact maneuverability however above 30g the impacts are so slight that FinAoA must also be very high to notice the difference. This is likely because to feel the impact of 40g the missile must either be very fast or pull very high AoA, likely both.

impacts on the AAM-3 are that its likely too slow to pull 40g until the end of its burn and as such maneuverability difference between it and the AIM-9M is minimal since the 9M is slower it still turns pretty tight even with inferior AoA.

to notice a greater difference in maneuverability the finAoA is what would need to be adjusted, finlataccel has a minimal impact on performance.

edit: difference becomes extremely noticeable at high speed launches so the reason why the idifference is so hard to notice is likely just because they only reach 40g at the end of burn typically, and when launched at a higher speed they reach their high end G limits much sooner so the difference is much more pronounced. The AAM-3 doesnt feel its max overload until the end of its burn so the difference is minimal from the 9L/M sidewinders.

it’s post MSIP, pre didn’t have AAM-3 i done think. would also explain it being 300kg heavier in test

No this is a pre-msip version. Which eventually also received AAM-3s. In fact to this day there are still some F-15Js that never received MSIP upgrades but have been retrofitted to use other equipment such as AAM-5s.

But i can assure you the F-15J we have is pre-msip and AAM-3 is historically correct.

Pre-MSIP had AAM-3. Post-MSIP has 220E engines, AAM-4, AAM-5, HMS, and a new radar.

I hope whatever camos they add, they also cover the pylons and fuel tanks.

Do we know much about the J/APR-4 compared to the AN/ALR-56? Especially in terms of what bands it could detect in WT?

hmm i’ve never looked into that might try and see what i can find.

OHHHH boi!! I would pay ANYTHING for that camo!

well from a quick search i’ve come empty lol it seems it will be hard to find its performance just like anything Japanese

That’s what I figured and had trouble myself. Wonder what it will end up like in live. Probably copy paste from the AN/ALR-56 for now.

I NEED that dragon camo

Welp, looks like the live server is upon us now

Let’s hope the devs are open to tweaking the AAM-3 after the fact, lest it ends up like the Magics and it takes forever to fix…

No additional camos yet. :(

Whereis the HMD for F15J?

its a pre MSIP version hence no TWS and no HMD
