Missile counter missile (short: MCM), sometimes also called Iron doming is a method to counter missiles, where you use your own missile to shoot the enemy missile out of the sky. It’s more common in higher tiers, where missiles and radars are more common and capable.
It is very effective, however it completely destroys the balancing and gameplay at toptier.
MCM’ing makes everything except the radar and the amount of missiles a plane can carry irrelevant. This automatically makes the Su30SM, Su30SM2, J15T and the Super Hornet the best planes in the game.
No matter if you are in a Eurofighter, a Rafale or Gripen, if the enemy is flying one of these 4 planes, they technically always have the upper hand in a 1vs1, just because they have more missile than you.
It is the ultimate point and click gameplay in War Thunder (Air), no skill and no thinking necessary.
Luckily, MCM’ing is not used by every player yet, but its getting more popular, at least in my experience.
Gaijin should stop this method from spreading further, to save the remaining balancing and gameplay at top tier, before it becomes fully unplayable.
Just more catering to the lowest common denominator going on here screaming “where’s muh counterplay?!” all while completely and utterly ignorant that modern tech was explicitly engineered to be as un-counterable as humanly possible.
Which is why for years the WT devs were hesitant to make the jump into modern technology.
Its easily fixed too.
They added code so that ARH missiles wouldnt prox fuse on other missiles if they werent the primary target. Just disable (or heavily reduce) prox fuse for any missile vs any A2A missile. Couple with reducing their RCS signature when that finally gets added should largely resolve the issue. Makes it so that you can still do it, but is a lot less reliable than it is currently. MCM is semi-accurate, weapons like IRIS-T can be paired to an EFTs RWR/MAWS and automatically be fired to intercept a weapon, but its taken to an extreme level in-game that is ahistorical and easily fixed
