Half of my family is in the french navy, an uncle of mine was actually an admiral for a time (left to become a consultant, the french navy doesn’t pay that well it seems) and the stories i’ve heard… The old saying that we copy no one and no one copies us probably applies to doctrine and procurement protocols too.
I can confirm, I also have high-ranking naval officers in my family and I have the impression that French industrialists make decisions that can really be surprising.
French kit is bloody wonky and strange.
But it does the job, and usually does it pretty well. Very creative answers to questions that require very little creativity.
Snazzy stuff tho. Shame we stopped getting French stuff, we’d be in a better spot 😿
And yet, we only know the surface of what has been achieved.
Just by researching informations on the French Jaguars, I came across some absolutely hilarious ideas/prototypes.
We won’t be talking about the chaff bomb, the flare parachute or the maritime version of the Jaguar.
Oh that’s nice, an uncle of mine was in charge of the Dixmude for a while, got to tour it and was invited to his quarters, that was pretty cool :)
That must have been amazing, Mistral class carrier are probably my favorite ships in the Navy, you can just do anything with them
Definitely a cool experience, I remember standing on the deck and thinking, oh man thats a loooong way down. I also remember that the ship was really hot in some areas, especially the vehicle bay, that thing was an oven my god.
