Mirage 2000-5F at BR 14.0: Is its current placement still appropriate?

Under-br’d plane

Except only 120Ds have no launch limits? Micas can fire as soon as you get a lock, 120A/B/Cs don’t.
120Ds are also the slowest of the 3.

Mainly it’s made more planes lethal in shorter ranges and made the differences between Fox-1 vs Fox-3 and launch limited Fox-3 vs non-limit Fox-3 more insane

Oh, and in air rb jousts the rafale is literally untouchable

They need to add new BR (15.0) to let 14.3 planes out of their BR hell…or shuffle the rotation to let the 14.7 planes huff farts alone and let mechanical scanned typhoons have day under the sun.

So, hear me out…
decompress 13.0-14.7 so that even the mirage has more chances to shine with new top br

crazy right?

launch limits don’t matter as much as you think, when you have to point your nose at your target.

The “no launch limits” is fine when you have over the shoulder IRST on Rafale, but in 5F you still need to point your radar on the target. Sure, you have a window where you can go defensive and launch from mem mode, but if you are already pointing your nose, why not launch in better launch parameters regardless?

That would be the optimal solution, yes.

…Why would you need to point your nose with micas?

What exactly are “better launch parameters” than launching a mica that can instantly pull into my enemy then immediately dip into the defensive?

first of all 90° isnt over the shoulder

second of all the rafale can only lock targets with the IRST up to 85°

so still no proper arguments

You need to have a lock, or lock mem before you can fire fox3, no?

And if you already went aggressive to get lock, why not launch the missile instantly, instead of waiting to launch from defensive posture?

and you dont need to fully point your nose at a target for that

there is this thing called “radar gimbal”

image

And how exactly is this “pointing my nose at the enemy”? “But HMD IRST” argument won’t work here since Rafale shares identical radar gimbal limits to m2k (70 degrees) which is what I used as example.

Who said you have to wait to launch just because you’re flying defensively?

In 5F, that does not have the IRST, you need to have a valid track before you can get mem, no?

And to get that track, you need to have the target inside your gimbal limits, no?

I dont understand, what is the confusion here?

… so does rafale, which is demonstrated in picture.

… so does rafale.

Yet my nose was never on target.

So, shooting straight away, and not waiting to go in to mem mode is preferable, no? Missile has less turning to do.

And how exactly does this change anything? I still didn’t have to put my nose on target either way.

No, since you’re not as close to a notch
You want to be as close to the notch as possible (when launching), saves energy and gives you more time to react

Well, no launch limit missiles are most BS when paired with radars that can lock you at or over 90 degree off bore. SM2 with R-77-1 sitting forever in a notch, spamming at you is something that happens in top tier sim missile jousts.

He does not need to point his nose at you at all, just sit there and launch away. If you, however, dont have radar that can look at 90 or so, you need to expose yourself by pointing your nose at him to get the track, or in case of Typhoons, you can get the track but need to move inside your missiles launch limits to fire off a shot. In both cases you need to move aggressively to get the shot off.

I though this is common knowledge to everyone in top tier buy now…

Sure. Doesn’t change that it can be utilized by m2k.

It is also a 14.7 (should be 15.0) plane. I don’t see why you’re comparing SM2 to M2k. Meanwhile planes of same/lower BR than m2k (F-15E, hornets) can’t launch in trk mem at all.

Point is, in a missile close range joust, a 5F needs to go aggressive to get a track and launch, something his opponent can see and react to. So the “no launch limits” on MICA is not as useful as one might think. It is there, and you can use it, but it does not free you from doing the legwork to get the track/track mem in first please
