Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

Radars are different, so is FCS most likely. 9.41 has same radar as 9.15 however. Question is if 9.41 FCS is compatible with R-27, because radar certainly is.

I wonder if they omitted R-27 capability due to advancements in R-77 capability. It could also be a reason.

Might be, we don’t have any solid docs on 9.41R as well, only Indian export 9.41. Which could end up without R-27 compatibility due to the fact that India simply doesn’t need it.
Another thing is that Russia never produced R-27 for export, Ukraine did.

TIL. So all the R-27s used outside of Russia, like say in Vietnam, are actually made in Ukraine?

Either that or delivered back in USSR times. I only found that India signed a contract with Russia in 2019 for R-27 deliveries, wich is like 15 years after MiG-29K contract was signed (2004)

You were right. I looked up on SIPRI and Vietnam’s stock of R-27s were in fact Ukrainian.

For majority of time, sole manufacturer of R-27 was Ukrainian Artyom factory. Russia later also started production with original designer of the missile - Vympel being also a manufacturer, but i can’t say for sure when it happened exactly.
Iirc it was when Ukraine stopped trading military tech with Russia, before that even Russia used Ukrainian made R-27s if i’m not mistaken

MiG-29KR is more sustainable at this altitude. You can actually keep it stable.
Maybe it’s a problem with WarThunder, i noticed sudden reduction in lift generation above 12km

It’s possible Gaijin just… Didn’t plan for anyone to ever go to that altitude.

War Thunder at it’s core is made for WWII Prop planes, not super modern Fighters.

Well, they did raise skybox because of MiG-25… but there is a high probability that they messed up with some of parameters. Fulcrum can fly stable at that altitude and speed, but any maneuvers are gonna cost you pretty much all of you speed

So does Russia make R-27s???

I’m confused.

Nowadays - yes. But iirc it started after 2014, Ukraine banned all military trade with Russia that year

I’m pretty sure they just copied it from the basic MiG-29 HUD.

I wouldn’t doubt it, knowing Gaijin.

i think it is tbh
