Meteor Missile System

You’re talking about a missile in the game vs. one that has yet to be added.

I wouldn’t draw too many conclusions.

Ignoring the blatant off topic, and as H_ngma_ said, Europe is self sufficient on food…

Could’ve sworn that was a cost saving measure :P I wouldn’t put that past us Europeans

In term of in game implementation, the turn would probably be similar if not a bit worse than the AMRAAM in the same conditions (speed, altitude) since the missile is similar in size and aerodynamics. It’s probably a bit limited by the air intakes which increases the torque needed to turn the missile, so if the AMRAAM pulls 35G, the meteor probably will pull in excess of 30G, at least that’s my guess.

Considering all missiles got significantly buffed, and even assuming meteor is a fair bit less maneuverable than the rest, i don’t see its maneuverability being a problem tbh.

Is basically all that is needed to know really, and obviously meteor isn’t going to be some short range demon, but it should do fine where it needs to be used at

Same. In game, i don’t see the meteor being anything else than a straight upgrade over the AMRAAMs, especially for users of longer range IIR (MICA, ASRAAM…) which will fill the short-med range that might not benefit the Meteor as much (I’m assuming that we are probably closer to seeing new IIR rather than long range ARH first)

Indeed it’s a doctrinal thing. When the UK developed the requirement my understanding is the onus was specifically on a missile to replace AMRAAM and complement ASRAAM. Hence the combination being a simply superior combination than the Sidewinder-AMRAAM combo. Hence why UK Typhoons don’t mix their loadouts like the German ones do. Germany is essentially fielding missiles that are a step above their US counterparts but don’t have that difference in role like the Brits and French do.

ASRAAM is a better missile irl from the data available in the short-medium range regime with higher acceleration, peak speed, time to target and G pull, where Meteor then picks up is in the medium to long range regime where the consensus is that we can be confident Meteor will exceed AMRAAM due to the energy disparity.

There may be a gap somewhere in that area where AMRAAM is better, but as far as I know, that’s not known to be a thing.

The low order’s would be a cost saving measure, but equally so, QRA aircraft are the ones you’re going to photograph and the forces know it, so missiles have an expiry date, you might as well show them off, mixing the loadout doesn’t really save you any money.

Though the estimate is that the UK has more Meteor than the other users do and AMRAAM is kept around solely for F-35.

Honestly I think ARH will be the key figure for now rather than IIR, its a lot easier to set up counters to ARH missiles via ECM buffs, chaff buffs, notching improvements, decoys of the towed and disposable type etc.

The setup for defeating IIR missiles seems to be keep out of range, have MAWS+BOL flares specifically, or just die.

I personally believe that the IIR will be the great equilizers against 5th gen. If 5th gen come by the end of the year, IIR would have to arrive before or same update, that is one of the next 2 updates

Only the ASRAAM, MICA and IRIS-T (specifically when paired with Eurofighter and Gripen) will give an edge I think. ASRAAM and MICA from IRST launches will help in that regime, admittedly the Eurofighter will have to fight a bit harder to get closer and in range with ASRAAM, but it has a defensive suite very strongly geared up to do just that with TRD’s, disposable decoys and loads of countermeasures. Rafale and MICA IR need I say more it’s self explanatory.

IRIS-T and its pseudo hardkill APS capability when paired with MAWS will make it a lot easier to close that same gap also.

But I think holding off on IIR missiles and focusing on ARH’s and that dynamic is an easier tool to balance everything with. But 5th gens are just inherently superior platforms for the future environments, and 4.5ths are just playing an elite tier catchup game.

Well that did not last long being unmuted… Anyways I hope that before we get IIR and better ARH missiles, we get a rework to all the defensive things, like jamming and a rework of IR countermeasures, becuase I do not think it will be fun gameplay to just have undefeatable missiles flying around en masse…

We really need something - because top tier is going to be a mindless spamfest.

Well, more so than it is at the moment.

IIR missiles currently are very dodgeable against ground plarforms if you know they are coming. they become painfull in rear aspects and overall below 5km, so it will probably actually decrease the amount of furballs

Isn’t it a Mach 3 missile?

Around Mach 5

From such a small missile? Maybe at Mach 2 from a eurofighter at extreme altitude

The normal number that shows up is 3+

Idk
Also, talk size cough

Look at the booster though, the missile is also shaped more like an APFSDS round than anything else

According to Gaijin it has a sustainer that keeps it going, soo…
