Meteor Missile System

That would make sense as the seeker derivates from the MICA which itself is already Ku band (reported but not implemented in game)

Would you have link to/date of the brochure ? It’s funny that they call the MICA, MICA RF. I expect it to be mid/late 2000s at the earliest because, meteor and FSAF Aster. This would contradict what I thought was a weird naming convention from before the 2000s.
It really seems that EM is the French naming convention while RF is non-french naming convention

This is not possible, the total engine impulse of the meteor, under the best paper conditions in range 2.8-3.0 times greater than that of the R‑77‑1 despite the much higher cx0 and very high darg/thrust loss at AOA

Not a static figure btw

Similar to AMRAAM

Non factor, two diff manoeuvring methods + thrust is constant.

Yes, youre right, in reality, it will indeed be less.

thrust is not constant kid.

Oh - you’re back?

What are we struggling to get your head around this week? Flight? Electricity? Delta wings? Things that aren’t bashed together by Brutik the Tractor Mechanic using two bits of granite and a lumphammer?

Looks at waffle “This is not possible” More waffle

Ah, Meteor. I suppose to your mind it must run on magic and witchcraft. Where does one start?

I fear if someone explained to you about these things called ‘aerospace engineering’, ‘ramjets’ et al - you might short out. So probably best not do that.

How maneuverable would it be if modeled accurately according to publicly available data?

How long is a piece of string? At what point in the flight profile? At what speed, at what height?

Not a whole lot to go on regarding it’s agility. It isn’t exactly a lumbering cruise-missile - nor is it going to be an R-73.

Remember that kinetically defeating the current missiles is no easy thing to do IRL. Most modern missiles are far more capable than even the best aircraft.

Meteor adds an additional trick by being able to smite you from a very, very, very long way away and having a rather large zone in which your flight performance cannot save you by outrunning it. It also helps that it is quite a ‘smart’ missile - so people saying it is some sort of modern-day AIM-154 or less crude R-37M are very much mistaken.

I wouldn’t know.

All I know is that you are now bringing agriculture into a discussion about Meteor.

Do you habitually get a modern long-range AAM confused with potatoes? This would explain a great many things.

Can we not slop post please

Totally agree. I think it best to return to potato…no sorry… the relative NEZs of the top of the line missiles - specifically why Meteor has a particularly good one all told.

I thought the best NEZ depending on the obvious parameters was around 65km and the whole 100km thing was the 90s to reach it?

On the topic of talking about things you don’t know about:
You know that the EU is a net exporter in agricultural products, right?
Maybe ask ChyetGPT next time before you embarrass yourself.

62 miles is 100km - given as the estimated NEZ using public sources - that might be the two figures you are thinking of?

Absolute max range is probably not a figure you’d see in public circles for quite some time. Although given the thing is still motoring along way past 100km - potentially quite a way.

There ye go. Thanks.

It likely wouldn’t be good as AMRAAM at closer range.

But the general thought is that you use ASRAAM in the ranges it is superior to AMRAAM in, and then from where ASRAAM’s advantage against AMRAAM ends due to a loss of energy to complete maneuvers, Meteor then takes over having its own energy advantage over AMRAAM.

well of course not, it isnt designed to be so
the meteor is designed for long range shots while the AMRAAM is for medium range shots

that is also why you normally arent seeing EFs with a full Meteor loadout whne going for A2A
they normally still carry 2 AMRAAMs

That makes sense

But with new AMRAAM buffs ASRAAM advantages are not nearly as much as before. AIM-120 remains effective at a larger amount of ranges than ASRAAM and best case gets a kill, worst cases forces a notch or MP dive
