Has been shown via aero heating that it’s Mach 5+, they also show that it’s peak velocity is ≈60% higher than comparable missiles.
Also note it’s 20kg lighter than MICA yet(even when mica is soon fixed) has about the same or slightly more fuel mass.
CAMM has 1150m/s dV in game. and is 10kg heavier, so you can see how that becomes very fast pretty quickly. (1600m/s dV), which is Mach 4.6, So including drag and launch speed you can see how Mach 5+ occurs.
Comparable missile is AIM-9 which is 2.5, that would put ASRAAM at Mach 4 in the most favorable conditions.
Mach 5+ is very questionable, maybe CAMM is overtuned
Comparable in what sense, for marketing comparisons its likely IRIS-T, whatever it is it has a short sustainer profile.
Nope, its valid based on motor diagrams and the fact in v-launch camm is capable of mach 3 and thus must have a dV > 1028m/s
You think they wouldn’t use the global standard for short range IR missile that also happens to make a bigger better looking number when you compare it to the ASRAAM?
Not everywhere is sea level
any feasible launch altitude for a ground based AD in the uk is not going to be much higher than sea level.
Well it lists example 5th generation missiles as IRIS-T and AIM-9X one is Mach 3, the other >2.5, usually M2.8 iirc.
They could still just use 2.5 to make the missile look better, that’s the typical public figure.
Well the numbers support Mach 5 unfortunately.
Maybe at or over Mach 2 from a euro fighter pushing into low earth orbit
Its far from unfeasible.
Has temperature been account for? I’ve read that CAMM was tested in northern Sweden, it gets awfully cold up there which drops the speed for a given Mach number
If it needed 1028 m/s delta v to meet its performance requirements at normal conditions, it could go down to anywhere from 980-1000m/s when you look at what the actual conditions would be in such a location
In winter, speed of sound could be 310-315m/s which would make delta v less than 950m/s
Tbf your method of figuring out the MICA’s fuel mass was very faulty, trying to pixel measure in the first place ending up being wrong. I had someone else look at the nato paper and everything was there to calculate the MICA’s fuel mass.
Ahh how did they do that/what did they get?
My method was mainly just working out what fuel would be required for a 1000m/s dV, any pixel measuring was just an estimate of what would be possible.
Try with the realistic 950m/s delta v on CAMM
CAMM was tested in multiple places.
what is your claim for “realistic” deltaV?
Test range temperatures affecting Mach number
It would still fulfill Mach 3 surface launched claim
