Unfortunately yes, rp gains are very dependent on time played. Even if you carry the whole match it does not matter much if the game is short.

If you want to “actually” play the game, you need to get Premium Time (Account). It goes on sale 2x a year for $20 for 180 days on the Web Store. (You can get a full year in game for Golden Eagles which is slightly cheaper, but I find it easier to just get the 180 days from the Web Store. You would also need to purchase a large amount of Golden Eagles to make the resulting price per day cheaper.)
Premium Time on sale is cheaper than what most games charge a year/each time they come out with an expansion.
If you want to play for “free”, then you pay with your time. Which is what you are doing now. Nothing in life is free. You either pay with your money, or you pay with your time. Your choice 👍
