Make a altitude minimum for fog

Fog is so annoying and I think it should be moved to 2500m RALT on every map. Thoughts?

Isnt that just a cloud?

No. I love low hanging clouds and fog. Not only is it realistic It also works to the advantage of both tanks and aircraft in different measures. I want more of it.

Low altitude clouds are literally on the runway.

Sure, you can use the airfield AAA as a scuffed optical landing system alongside your minimap acting as a even more scuffed localizer, but that forces you to land straight-in and prevents maneuvers like the overhead break to minimize vulnerable time in air.

This is especially fun if there’s a mountain in front of the runway forcing you to take a steep glide path without knowing where you’re touching down.

Okay, and? I don’t see an issue here.

You don’t see an issue with being unable to see the runway which forces you to take a very slow, straight-in approach while forced to rely on scuffed target markers and the minimap.

You got an altimeter that helps you on top of the minimap. Sounds like you have an adapting issue.

Can I land? Sure. Do I enjoy doing it? In MSFS? Certainly!

Does it take easily twice or thrice as long compared to flying at 500 m RALT at full throttle, passing the runway’s treshold and cutting throttle, banking right and pulling in a 2-6 G turn to turn right onto the runway.

Twice or thrice as long while being very vulnerable and flying at very low speeds in a straight line and gently descending.

Boo hoo, adverse weather conditions require you to adapt to it. You seem to be forgetting that it also forces everyone else to do the same. That includes the enemy team, as well. Nobody in the same match is exempt from having to adapt or die, so again, I don’t see the issue here.

On a flat maps I think 1500 m RALT is good, and maps like Mysterious Valley should at least have 2000 or 2500 m.

The depth of the radiation fog varies from 3 feet to about 1,000 feet and generally remains stationary.
Basically, above about 300 meters it is no longer fog.

Every. Single. Game. All covered in a sheet of clouds at 1500m. Seems to happen MUCH more in props. How could you enjoy getting jumped by people you cant even see (thanks shared spotting) while youre already dealing with a guy? It makes props that much more painful. Can’t stand making a move against a guy, while i have an advantage, then it all going to waste because someone dropped from a cloud in a plane that turns better.

You realize you can use the cloud cover to get the jump on people or break contact just like everyone else, right?

It works both ways, after all. You get third-partied just as much without cloud cover as you do with it - It literally doesn’t make a difference in that regard. Trying to use that for your argument is an invalid point of argument.

We need our airfields to have ILS!

Nope, I’d love to see it all the way to the ground sometimes, and not having it others.

Whilst we have a lot of similar views on other things - in this case the fellow player is on the right track as you won’t get 3rd-partied in props without clouds if you are fully aware of the match (who is where).

  • The longer you play, the less you get “surprised” - it boils down that at a certain point you get killed only by own mistakes. Mistakes happen as a result of wrong decision making. Clouds and fog increases the risks for wrong decisions as you can’t make informed decisions.

  • In other words: Clouds and fog takes away a lot of your experience advantage (if you have one) whilst giving nothing back in return.

  • You might kill stragglers with sneak attacks but even average players tend to stick together in “bad weather” - so you have a rather high pressure for “one-pass” kills to get rid of the marker vs a single opponent whilst the total number of remaining enemies (and their assumed position on the map) decide if you can attack 2 or more enemies even with a massive energy surplus.

  • Extending might work with jets, but in props it is not that easy as it sounds as it depends a lot on the performance of the involved aircraft, the number of remaining enemies and their current position.

I sure love flying completely blind mach 1.2 through mysterious valleys.

As far as GRB goes, I like low clouds as long as its not a desert or mountain map.

You’re not going to get favorable conditions in every match, just like in reality. That’s just how it is. Everyone in that match has to deal with it. Just have to adapt, nor die, or just not sortie at all.

I actually do, personally. Not even being sarcastic; It’s honestly pretty exciting. As for GRB, I also like it regardless of map.

Multi million $ aircraft that doesn’t have EGPWS ? What an absolute waste of taxpayer’s money.

Warthunder moment.
