Major Update "Seek & Destroy" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 5)

im just gonna call it the Klippel-Feil syndrome apfsds until there is a name for it

How old are you

i have seen how you act

also guessing on the pressure the cannon has, im guessing the shell its supossed to be a low velocity stupidly long DU shell, basically brute forcing its way through with pure lenght

There 's the update announcement, shut down the thread )))

That’s only because the French have made no further effort to increase the pressure of the gun. They massively increased the chamber volume then deemed the cannon (as is) sufficient for modern threats.

i think the idea behind it was to purposedly make it just fast enough to not affect heavily the penetration performance of a possible DU shell

Doubtful. France dabbled in DU but it drew a lot of criticism. Just as soon as the DU APFSDS production lines opened in 1995, they were closed by 1999. And DU was only ever used as a stopgap measure to extend the range of OFL 120 F1 instead of creating an entirely new shell (let’s be honest OFL 120 F1 isn’t a great round round IRL). I don’t believe France actually has the means to develop DU rounds anymore as they sold off their heavy metals manufacturing to the Austrians.

There also hasn’t been talk of using DU for Ascalon. Rather, last I heard, the French army are interested in a hypervelocity anti-tank missile to extend the range of their next generation MBT to 10km lol.

weird then i wonder why the low pressure

French were already developing a barrel-launched NLOS missile for the Leclerc since the late 1990s called Polynege. Then they started to develop PROCIPAC for the Leclerc which is a hypervelocity missile. But it’s all extremely classified and there’s next to zero info.

It makes sense though. The current SXXI can recognise a threat at 8km but can only engage at 4km max. With Safran’s current technology it’s safe to say the distance at which a target can be identified extends well beyond the practical range of “conventional” ammo.

As for why the Ascalon is currently relatovely low pressure, there’s no need to increase as of yet so why bother?

From a former GIAT engineer:

What next? During recent public presentations in France, the French Army has clearly expressed its wish to see the weight of the MGCS contained under 50 tons. It also mentioned a hypervelocity anti-tank missile as a means of obtaining greater ranges than those of the APFSDS rounds within the framework of the NLOS capability in collaborative combat.

Gotta wait at least another 50 years that’s if Nexter even decides to bless us mere mortals with all the knowledge they hold.

Is this leak meant for this update?

idk,I don’t know if anyone has checked the authenticity of the source

Olivia’s leaks are authentic.

You have discord to ask that))))

asl, am i right?

How do you “present” a site like this?
i can just put the Hyperlink in it.
