Major Update "Hornet Sting" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 3)

That is fair, I just already know that the F-15E and EFT will significantly outperform it in BVR. So if I’m going to play a missile bus I might as well play a good missile bus.

F18 is no bus

Sometimes, when I’m on the EFT, I wish I had a few more 120s hahah, which that’s what F/A-18E will provide; and, on top of that, its radar will apparently be better too. So I don’t know if the speed disadvantage will really be that bad when it will have more AMRAAMs to spam more reliabily.

Thank you.

Okay yeah I still see only 10. Note that the AIM-9L/M and AIM-9X sections have dual pylons for station 3, 4, 8, and 9. But not 2 and 10. Similarly, it can be expected that 2 and 10 also do not have dual pylons for AIM-120s. That leaves dual pylons for 3, 4, 8, and 9. 4x2 = 8. Plus 1 from station 2 and 10 each. That is 10 AIm-120s. I’m not seeing where people are getting 12 AMRAAMs.

It should be better than the F-15E at medium ranges, remember you don’t have to take all 12 AMRAAMs, you could take 6 or 8 plus the 2 Sidewinders and retain some more agility.

BVR isn’t the only way to play top tier

1.1 mach on deck 1.8 mach high

It’ll hopefully be able to take the EF vertical and win.

1 on stations 2 and 5, 2 on stations 3 and 4, is 6, mirror it for the other side is 12, you just can’t count

1+2+2+1 for each side

f18 should handle like mig 21 bis on crack

Don’t lose it ;)

I know, but… ok, forgive me for the ignorance hahah, since I’m not really an air player and these are new grounds for me, but- how does top speed impact the ability to spam missiles?

Sure, they will have less inertia, but… does that have THAT much of an impact?

EDIT: Renzo just replied to this hahah. It’s about climb it seems.

Yeah it’s a one trick pony. It does 1 good turn and then it lost all it’s energy and will be a brick.

If I play my F-15E I climb to high altitude and launch my amraams for longer range. So while yes the 18E has more amraams, but seeing that the F-15E can always have both a speed and position advantage (altitude), the 18E’s amraams will always have less range and less energy later in their flight.

True, but at that point the EFT or Rafale are much more interesting and fun to play than the Hornet for me personally. Similar amount of missiles in that case but much more fun and probably better flight performance.

Actually, I just didn’t count station 5 and 7 somehow. Are there any pictures showing AIM-120s mounted on station 5 and 7?

In the right hands it’ll be able to take the EF vertical because of how its engines are set up for a possibility of split thrust.

5 and 7 are the primary stations for those missiles, they can only take AIM-7 and AIM-120, like on the fuselage of the F-15

That's them on an F/A-18C, it'll be the same for the E

Just with one extra on a new outer wing pylon
