Brimstones/etc can be nukes for all I care, L-JDAMs still work in this current meta so what’s the problem lol.
Then don’t treat them like cruise missiles and nerf them? You do realize the AAM-4 is severely nerfed compared to IRL just so it can be in the game right? Same deal. ASMs can just be the Japanese answer to FnF AGMs.
And yes, you would have to do some trading, but you can still carry both, which means you still have options to do both CAP and CAS.
(Realistically, I’m rarely going to be CASing as I love CAP, so this isn’t even the reason I want the F-2)
The F-5 in particular is important because ASM would behave like that but ability to lock from farther range. I know ASM-3 has DL and all the other features, but I’m sure that will come way later. Right now ASM-2 is more than enough for what Japan needs.
You can do BVR well enough, all you lack is staying power as the CM count is half of the F-15J(M) which means you’ll need to leave to re-arm sooner.
You do realize even now the Block 10 F-16, while inferior, is close to the EFT that the F-2, which is better than Block 10 F-16s, will stand a better chance? I still don’t think F-2 will beat EFT as the math doesn’t work out. Maybe 1 circle, but def not 2 circle.
You’re also ignoring CAP in ground RB nobody plays BVR lol. Ignoring that most targets will be fully ladden with armaments, they’ll rarely see you coming when you stealth fire AAM-3s which thankfully have IRCCM so MAW flares won’t do much. Dogfights are super common and the number 1 reason I play CAP in ground RB (air RB is boring to me because of markers), which is where the F-2 will excel, provided they don’t run into an EFT/Rafale on CAP duty as well with less than 50% fuel and only A2A missiles.
That’s fair and even I’m not banking on it. As long as it gets vertical ACM mode like F-16AJ, I can make it work for dogfights as it’s pretty easy to use and honestly sometimes easier than the HMD when you get that slow.

Tbh the F-2 wouldn’t even be on par with something like the Strike Eagle or Eurofighter in terms of CAS or CAP. No mavericks or forseeable FnF weapons unless they add ASM-2 which I doubt, you have to sacrifice BVR capability for CAS, and as good as LJDAM’s are, they’re just not as good as dedicated FnF ordnance. That’s not to say the F-2 is going to be bad, far from it, but it’s just not going to compete with something like the Strike Eagle or EFT in terms of raw performance or CAS payload, and the only advantage it will have against them is in terms of radar performance, that is if Gaijin even bothers to improve their poor modeling of AESA, or in instantaneous turn against the F-15E. The time to add the F-2 would have been back in Dance of Dragons.

there is no problem with L-JDAMs, I’m merely laughing at the comparison to the current Gen 4.5s which is just wrong. They’re good, they’re just nowhere near the top.
They could’ve done the same for plenty of the ASM’s in the game and they just refused to? Reminder China hasn’t gotten an ASM on their J-10 or JH-7A that is functionally just an ASM with a glorified Maverick Seekerhead
Same applies to many ASMs that just aren’t in game
Stealth sneaking the missiles is something the 15JM can do easily, and as for dogfighting you’re still inferior to the Gen 4.5s that currently are in the game. So once again, I fail to see the comparison to said Gen 4.5s
I am not against the F-2 being added, in fact I think it should’ve been added with the J-10A in Dance of Dragons. But saying it compares even slightly favorably against the Gen 4.5s? Is uhhh… just wrong. Like an objectively false statement to say the least.
The only real advantage it would have is radar performance… That is if Gaijin doesn’t gimp the crap out of J/APG-2 since their modeling of AESA radars is incredibly shoddy.
why is it getting J/APG-2? should be J/APG-1 no?
J/APG-1 was never modified with the J/ARG-1 transmitter that would allow for datalink with AAM-4 missiles, so if they made it J/APG-1 then we would not have any datalink channels at all for our missiles… Either that or it would be stuck with Sparrows.

I agree in terms of CAS, but CAP I think only really the EFT and Rafale are currently better. Of course that will change over time as things like the Gripen E, F-22s, etc are added. However, it will still be very competitive.
You say it as if L-JDAMs will act like Mavs and be pretty unreliable. They may not be the top, but they’re still capable.
I’m not opposed for others to get their stuff. At some point they’ll add it.

I think it would be competitive. It won’t be the best, but not worlds apart that either could come out on top. On average a better F-16AJ pilot could take down EFTs in a CAP role, so an F-2 just has a better chance is all.
Basically what Nacho said, though honestly, it’s Gaijin, they could add the J/APG-1 and deny bug reports till the sun comes down lol (or worse, monkey paw)
