It’s the smartest choice he could have made, taking into account that France is a large user of American tanks and planes so it wouldn’t come out of nowhere.
Not to mention that the M41 would follow an American line that even new players would easily understand: M24 → M41 → M24 (FL10) → M24 revalorise .
You have 4 tanks once you understand how the first works, you discover the small changes of the second but you know the basics and so on .

Since we’re onto the F-4E AUP here’s my weirdo theory on why we will never see it or the F-4E 2020
The Vlogdev said the ICE was the Arch phantom, yet both those phantoms are better than the ICE, meaning Gaijin unofficially confirmed the ICE will stay the best phantom in game and we won’t see these ones.
This is a joke btw I really hope we see the AUP and Terminator
