Damage models are a entirely different discussion.
Magic II is much more reliable than what you make it out to be from my experience.
What you are describing might be AIM-9L territory.
F-5 which you will likely face a lot do of course have a different heat signature in game.
Well, Yeah, i’ve had an F-5 1 tap flare an Aim-9M when on full reheat in rear aspect at a range of about 2km. Their heat sigs are broken
My experience using them on something Mirage F1 against Mig-23MLs in Sim. Unless its a rear-aspect shot. Its 1 tap flare defeat. Same is the case for most IRCCM missiles in my experience. In anything other than rear-aspect. The IRCCM does nothing. Aim-9Ms are often easily defeated with a few flare drops when fired front aspect as well
AIM-9M is a different missile of course. Depending on the relative speed it might even have been kinematically defeated. Even so in rear aspect AIM-9M does not like being launched on longer ranges if the target is aware and defending.
Flying in a straight line on AB and dropping a flare is considered defending is quite scary. But I just blame it on the F-5 being the coldest known thing in the universe. vs most other targets that would have been a killshot without further effort from them to defend
He was aware and yes if you drop a single flare that is considered defending. No matter if it works or not.
Perhaps he knew about the range and speed difference and dropped a single flare to make sure, hm?
The heat signature is a problem of course. I’d wager the range was even more so in that situation.
@Morvran with Swiss F/A-18C addition in the next update we can safely assume that Germany will get their rank 8 premium. “What premium is even possible” you might ask, well there’s Greek F-4E AUP which (simply put) is an F-4F ICE++ with same radar, same missiles but also improved with LITENING II, LGBs, tri-rack AGM-65 and new cockpit with HUD.
