Ok, fine, you got me. They are not any of things that appeared here. They are actually tactical nuclear charges. They can be deattached mid flight, allowing for destruction of enemy assets while keeping the crew safe.

Nothing abnormal to the normal update cycle. Dates are never quite the same every year which can move things around. Particularly when there are events and anniversaries all at once.
