I really wish they’d go the DCS style of pre-placed airfields on the map instead of in the mission, they used to do it on some of the old WW2 maps and Afghanistan has Kabul Airport and Bagram Air Base and those seem so cool to take off from but none of the maps ever actually let you do that because they just place airfields and call it a day :(
Seems France got lucky on this one then historically iirc it was more in the realm of 40-45 seconds. Hopefully Caracciolo gets some help also to the same 35 seconds stock and 30 spaded. Seems like a slap in the face for the US ships though with their historical poor reload but the Italians and French got theirs buffed.
Yeah me too. Also with these… idk what you called them ‘dynamic’ airfields?, it really distorts the terrain in a particularly goofy way on some maps if the ground isn’t level. Those giant grass cliffs around the edges never looked good.
They are called dynamic airfields in the CDK, yeah. Basically they work as like you place an airfield and the game automatically sets spawn areas and rearm and stuff, it takes away the work from having to hand-make an airfield. But it also just looks really bad terrain wise a lot of the time because by their nature they have to have the terrain adjusted to them rather than the other way around.
Like I can understand dynamic airfields for prop planes (early ones especially) and helicopters since those could basically use dirt strips as landing grounds but for fast jets they need specific runway conditions that you can’t really just plop down anywhere.
If it 's not just for cinematic purposes, I’d think these are more likely to come as NPC 's of the airfield diorama like on the current Pearl Harbor and Stalingrad testflight maps:
iirc there is code for AI-controlled aircraft to taxi on/off the runway, but I can’t think of anywhere it 's used.
I’ve been wondering abt this, is Verba an Imaging IR seeker or does it just have multiple spectra it can detect ?
Appearently the mystery depth charge salvo code that was added recently has been removed on devserver :(
WT Mobile 's recent update featured a change to similar code though, so we now have a clearer picture of what this kind of code might be used for:
It 's effect, it drops all the depth charges from the rails in timed sequence when the key is pressed once, instead of individual key presses for each depth charge.
Like you said though, some of the handcrafted ones look fantastic. I think particularly of the OG ones on Korea (Minus the cliffs on north spawn that were a challenge to clear for heavy stuff), and that big one in the middle of Afghanistan.
There is? Huh, might have to try and mess with that in the CDK someday.
But yeah this is like the only place they use premade airfields as actual airfields.
Yeah, it is way more work but it is way better looking at the same time. But since they’re in a focus of basically making as many maps as possible a lot of the time I see why they don’t do it. As well as that, like I mentioned, they made sense back in the prop era when you can just take off from a strip of grass and so can make an airfield anywhere, but now in the jet age and especially the missile age that kind of asset doesn’t really make realistic sense.
Also, regarding the Afghanistan air base (that’s Bagram) yeah it is weird but I’m pretty sure its because unlike the other ones they only intended that one to be a visual decoration/landmark and not an actual airfield. The Kabul Airport that’s also on the Afghanistan map behaves the same way; touching down on there makes your plane act like it’s landing on unpaved grass. Which really sucks because more of those would be such awesome mission setpieces but they don’t like to make them I guess.
The Bf 109C-1 " Promo " just got added to the files of WT Mobile,
Since it 's already in the files here in WT ( and can be spawned in the Mission Editor, if you’re interested in seeing it early ), it seems likely that it’ll become available when WTM 's next major update releases in a few days.
Imagine if things like that Bagram base had its hangars, ATC, fuel storage etc etc all destructible things and part of the mission objective.
Honestly, WT has soooo much potential in it’s EC modes for interesting, extensive and immersive PVE objectives beyond ‘‘destroy glitchy convoy’’ or ‘‘help static ground battle’’ or ‘‘drop ‘x’ TNT equivalent here’’.
My big hope is that in a few years time, when he have most of what could possibly be added, they go through these modes and maps and overhaul them. Create something more akin to the Arma Sandbox experience. Would work beautifully in WT.
