Su-39: the flying SPAA

A-6F is gonna be funny
I imagine majority of folks are expecting just the A-6E SWIP, and when they find out that the US gets a prototype AMRAAM-capable Intruder instead of just a TRAM with extra bells and whistles, they may be just a tad exasperated

The US entirely lacks an option between 11.0(A-7K) and 12.0(F-14B), further the only targeting pod that has been implemented is on the A-6E TRAM which is a premium, which is in fact the only US airframe with one below 12.0.
(The AN/AAR-45 LANA is a navigation pod, that has been erroneously implemented and is actually slaved to the A-7’s A2G radar)
Even though there are a number of airframes that should receive one (F-4E (Pave Spike / Pave Tack), A-10A Late (LITENING). F-16A (ATLIS II)), and airframes that are missing entirely (AV-8B(NA) / -B+, etc.), and a number that are yet to be implemented (OV-10D, A-6x, B-57G, F-111C / -D / -E/ -F, etc.).

Its also compounded by a number of inaccuracies with the limited F&F ordnance that is otherwise present;
HEAT warhead on the Maverick is limited due to the 20mm hard cap on overpressure penetration (doesn’t mater that most MBTs have 25mm+ of RHAe for roof armor, let alone the interaction with ERA)
Lack of HE-F warhead & SLAH seeker Maverick variant(s).
(Only 80lb of Octol so don’t even have as much explosive mass as the Kh-23, even after the RE factor is accounted for, let alone the Kh-25, -29 or now the -38, and you still have to deal with the existing implementation of the Correlation seeker that never existed)
The Linear Shaped Charge warhead on the Walleye I is modeled as GPHE,
No Walleye II (800lb vs 2000lb class bomb)
No alternate IIR seeker for GBU-8 / GBU-15
No GBU-9 (GBU-8 w/ M118E1 3000lb bomb as a warhead)

I could go on.

Don’t need it when you have more ordnance than SPAA have missiles, and outrange them, and still have stations to spare. (The image is of 16x GBU-39A/B, which include a SALH seeker & GPS/INS backup)

that sounds like Power creep on steroids

even with seperated ground/Air BRs where would you put sth like this or the Su with R-77?

Have you watched the ENG Dev stream? They said there that Hungary air sub-T would start from i think like 5.3. SO before that that leaves a gap for the planes that Hungary build themself before and during WW2.

ohno the US lacks a CAS plane between 11.0 and 12.0

what an unbearable situation no other Tree has

choose F4E or A7K they are good enough

And the Russian have been noticeably complaining about lacking thermals? Not an entire class of ordnance that they pioneered, and deployed years before other nations.

Pioneered and deployed first doesn’t matter, this is a game not Real life

Balance should be priority and adding more and more attackers to the trees that least need them (US and USSR) is counter productive

Still 12.0 for Air RB lol, but maybe a bit lower for ground RB.

I feel like the SWIP is the most realistic option for the TT Intruder, since we know what weapons it had access to. With the A-6F, aside from getting an extra 2x pylons, AMRAAMs, and the stuff the TRAM had, there’s no telling if it would’ve also been capable of the same stuff the SWIP got (since that would be a few years later)

yea good luck playing a stock A6 at 12.0

might as well take a spitfire then

Probably stock 9Ms

ain’t gon help you against R-27 and R-24 in a Downtier

For now, any CAS plane over 11.0 equals the top, so no problem currently.

and this is something that won’t appear in game in a long time.

US CAS plane is limited, true, for their good carrier plane, and large loadouts. Something need to be paid to get advanced ammo for game balance, so I believe something with better ammo but worse plane, like A-6E SWIP with AGM-123, or A-10C with GBU-15V2, will come to game in near future.

Probably

Either way, that’s the thing with playing strike aircraft in Air RB: you’re always gonna have to deal with stuff 10x better than you

Should vehicles not have their stores revised when potential additions are added? or access to their true / tested capabilities? There seems to be a few obvious examples where this occurs, and many that happen to simply be missing things arbitrarily, take for example the GPU-5/A on the F-16A-10, then compare it to the SRAAM on the Hunter / Harrier GR.1 or IRST on the Yak-141.

Further the Paveway I series of LGBUs should have an 8.5 second control surface lockout timer, making it ballistic if released level below ~4000ft [1.2km] AGL, for example which heavily constrains performance and delivery ranges for early systems.

its not like I’m asking for the BLU-95 / -96 on the A-4E or anything either.
A-4E & BLU-95 (2)

You do get that they serve as things to add that don’t necessarily push the meta forward, while still adding content, and can be interspersed with fighters as needed to slow down the rate of additions of actual meta defining airframes providing time for other nations to receive and maintain their place via additions to their own tree.

And as such with so many options to chose from, additions can be curated to serve as a check on capabilities growth, and further can often be reused in other trees.

Besides at the rate we’re going what comes after the F-15C that is going to have AMRAAMs? where do you think we’re going to be by Christmas of '25; The F-14D, F-15E, F-16C-70 / -72, F-15EX, F-22, F-35?

Will be no problem in future, remember the update map? These attackers will get a separated BR in air and ground battle.

I had already mentioned that/taken that into account for these lol
There’s no way any plane with AMRAAMs is going to be facing pre-Vietnam stuff, or even mid-Vietnam stuff. An A-6F wouldn’t be under 11.7 in Air RB just due to the fact you can carry 4x 120As and 2x 9Ms (or reverse that with 4x 9Ms and 2x 120As, or even just 6x 120As), but performance-wise it couldn’t be above 12.3.

(I’d honestly just say it shouldn’t get AMRAAMs, as the extra 2x pylons and better engines are frankly give this thing a huge leg up over the SWIP)

They could’ve added the pre-TRAM A-6E with the premium one; the SWIP would be better, but who knows when that will come?

yes, that is true but

Gaijin has Limited resources and spending all those on vehicles that are really not priority is a bad idea because those could really just be used for something more important
