Major Update “Air Superiority” - Rumor Round-Up and Discussion (Part 4)

I rushed for the Panzer IV H. My German tree still looks horrible.

I got the Anko Panzer IV but never played WoT again after that.

If that’s the video of the T-90M getting obliterated from a side angle as it was driving forward, we still don’t know what killed it. It’s all been speculation.

AFAIK, and from what I’ve heard from others, it was moving too slow to be a kinetic penetrator, which means it must be an ATGM. Considering where it hit, it seems the ATGM passed under the skirt armor, near/betwen the wheels, and detonated the fuel in the front of the hull, hence the huge explosion. It doesn’t seem it was a head on shot at the Relikt ERA.

Honestly the reverse gear is so redundant because its never gonna need to reverse

Obligatory, Yugoslavia soon then?

Oh yeah true my man it was a 1 in 100 shot it just missed the side era and got lucky trust no real Russian tanks ever blow up

I don’t know about anyone else. But I don’t play “W” forward “win key” or whatever mindless style USSR players are accused of. I die plenty often simply because my autoloader is still reloading, and I can’t back up enough behind cover to wait and peek again. This will happen again, no matter how much armor the T-90M will get.

Gaijin should provide us with a well-documented manual on how to kill T90M

No they blow up plenty often. That video is in HD and it’s clear it never engaged the ERA. But believe what you want bro. Relikt ERA is the best ERA in the world, but yet you should be able to just shoot it directly and penetrate it with your mid-late 90’s round. Sure.

I mean even though Russia is called the USSR and not Russia and there for it get’s there puppet states equipment. Doesn’t really mean it should get them all :)

Does it still have DM43 as its best shell?

Idk we’ll have to see on the live but so far that things practically invincible

Yeah. And I get that it’s super frustrating. But unlike the BVM it has no mobility, and it has no passive or active protection system, so it’s not unkillable either.

Aaaand once again, 11mm of penetration increase

There hasn’t seemed to be any rush to M829E5, DM93 / 130~140mm Refit Crash programs start up since examples were acquired, so I doubt that the respective Nations think that it impacts their Combat effectiveness all too much with what exists. So why would should it have any significant impact on closer ranges where the penetrator has more energy, let alone point blank or WT combat distances.

The obvious conclusion is that while an improvement it probably isn’t as significant an upgrade as Gaijin has it apear, though that is likely due to the ERA bypass mechanisms that will probably never be implemented, at least based on the precedent set by the barely modeled TOW-2B.

Not for DM73 i think considering the Leopards need to upgrade their gun to fire it

M829A5 doesn’t exist, nor does [DM83] or DM93 nor were they in development. DM73 and M829A4 are barely into the production phase. Even if the West wanted to develop a new penetrator, they’d still have to start from basically the ground level, or wherever they left off at. DM73, nor M829A4 have not been used in Ukraine as far as we know.

Allegedly DM73 can penetrate relikt on the UFP due to it’s multi-segmented design. M829A4 has been rebranded to just the KE-W and the only information we have on it is what General Dynamics says it can penetrate, not how/why. For both GD and Rheinmetall we only have the figures the claim for those shells, but we don’t have any proof, as it’s all classified.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a T-90M had been delivered to the US, but we have no idea what condition it would be in. All we know for now is that a T-90A was spotted on a flatbed somewhere in the south, headed for Aberdeen.

I’m not going to speculate, because speculation should be the last thing a developer uses in a video game that attempts to be semi-realistic.

However, if I’m going to speculate, I’d bet that GD and Rheinmetall, and others, have not begun to try to conquer the T-90M arrangement because FPV drones are clearly becoming the top choice for neutralizing tanks, which are now mostly fire-support vehicles, and no longer necessarily breakthrough units. IF I speculate further, I think both sides have realized that theory =/= battlefield reality as a few of the Leo 2’s brought down early in the counteroffensive were destroyed (at least in combat effectiveness) by penetrations of the main hull by 30mm cannon fire, let alone larger cannon munitions (both of which have been recorded by Rheinmetall). Why waste millions or even a billion dollars developing a new 600mm+ length penetrator when you could just assemble a bunch of drones?

TOW-2B fails in this game because we have unrealistic things like repairing major components that would require sending a tank back to a depot or factory. If this game had some hardcore mode, TOW-2B would work as great as it’s chalked up to be. That being said, if you are referring to the infamous TOW-2B bug report, closed by TrickZZter, and reposted on the r/Warthunder, let me tell you it’s not a bug. TOW-2B has to be aimed carefully, else it does not detonate over the perfect center of the turret. When it does, it’s more likely to be absorbed by the breech of a Soviet tank, alongside a crewman. The report in question was asking why he wasn’t able to one-shot Soviet tanks with it, like the silver bullet he perceived the TOW-2B to be, and then complained he didn’t have access to an even better missile for the BR.

I’m assuming that’s why you mention the TOW-2B, if not, apologies for the wall of text.

P.s. no matter what, this game is regulated by what the devs feel is “balanced”. Stats, facts, speculation be damned.

Because the physics calculations would probably kill the game engine. And yes, mid 90’s APFSDS rounds with tips designed to defeat Kontakt-1 or 5 depending on the round being used.

DM53 gets the closest to being able to defeat relikt, but there’s nothing in the game yet for the Americans that is advertised to be able to do so.
