I’m just thinking if they do F-15A only and no fox 3s then Japan’s only options seems to be XF-2 or they just give us pre-MSIP F-15J even if it’s a C model. Or they give us nothing again and we get something good in March.
I remember they had trouble getting info for Type 81c which was taking them a while and then they passed it and brought it in fairly quickly (even if it had some errors). Considering your suggestion has been passed twice for the XF-2, I feel that they very well at least know of the XF-2 and I’d imagine have already looked at alternative radar options as that’s what’s stopping them from adding the F-2 itself. There’s also just gimping the J/APG-1 in general as it’s an experimental one anyway.

Better engine doesnt mean much, as you are likely DOA in a CQB fight. Range is your friend and the iron fist is suppose to be really good

I think it’s a doctrinal focus. To a limited degree, I think it has to do with capability as well. Just like overengineered PESA’s that Russia has used instead of dedicating itself to AESA long enough to figure out.
Could Russia make a thermal pod that works well? Yes. Will they? Not until they have to.
Just look at how they basically insisted on CCIP for targeting terrorists in Syria, and now how they’ve developed UMPK for the place we can’t mention right now. They figure it out, but only after it’s necessary.
No one in the Kremlin has decided yet that Thermal Pods are worth forcing investment and development into.

BN is slow the 2e is faster but the same speed as all other nation thats all it gets BN has APS which comes in handy a lot

The BN has better optics and Iron fist to protect against ATGMs and AGMs
2E is slightly faster and has a 50 cal.
Both are missing most of their armour and both are best designed for long range supporting fire, not CQB brawling. Meaning the better of the 2 CR2s is the BN as its upgrades best suit the playstyle required by the CR2 if you even want to do well. (as the 2E is foldered undernearth the BN, then its pretty clear Gaijin agrees with that as well)
