History.
Year 1937. Based on the Macchi M.C. 94, the engineer Mario Castoldi designed and built a specimen of Macchi MC.99, a military seaplane usable as a bomber or as a torpedo bomber. The vehicle had good performance, decent armament and a good offensive load, but only one specimen was built and that entered service at the Regia Aeronautica in the 170th Auxiliary Aviation Squadron for the Navy. Unfortunately, it is not known what happened to the vehicle.
Armament and propulsion.
The vehicle was equipped with two Isotta Fraschini Asso XI RC.15 engines delivering 890 HP and which allowed the vehicle to reach a maximum speed of 282 km/h and a ceiling of 5500 m.
Speaking of armament, the vehicle was equipped with four 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns placed in 3 positions on rotating turrets. The first turret was placed in front of the aircraft, the second on the back of the fuselage behind the engines, and the last one at the rear of the aircraft. The aircraft could carry a maximum of 1500 kg of bombs placed in racks under the wings, or two torpedoes.
