M52 Self Propelled Howitzer

10RPM is the reported max, so a 6 second reload on an maxed crew. Probably around 8 seconds stock. Still much better than the M4A3 (105) but it still won’t be winning many competitions, especially in direct confrontation.

Then why would we need that as a vehicle? Others tanks exist. Putting it Below M109G wouldn’t make sense either lol

because it is much weaker than the M109, it is much easier to use, and more versatile play-style while introducing to derp gun.

The concept of different BR and different tiers exist as well.

How would it be much weaker if it would have 35mm pen on the gun? It is still strong enough to overpressure most tanks without having to worry about aiming, I thought vehicle suggestions were meant to be creative?

EDIT: Where would you put it that it’d make sense tho lol? Seriously rethinks this, if it was to be 5.0 or 4.7 it’d be playing against PZ IVs, Mediocre french tanks/premiums, horribly armored Italian Tanks like the Turan III, T-34s, T34-57s, all targets easy picking and no real way to counter it than to have a HMG/SPAA take it out? That’s not very ballanced.

“Without having to worry about aiming”

Other than, y’know, for spots that can actually overpressure

People say SPH vehicles don’t require aim all the time, and that’s not true. They have worse drop and velocity than 99% of other vehicles, plus have to aim for roofs/weakspots in the top armor of tanks…

And on your second point. Maybe instead of HMGs and SPAAs… Try shooting it in the massive, ammo-rack-carrying, unarmored turret first with practically any normal tank???

You say that like you cant just shoot the turret on all vehicles and you will overpressure the roof? What are you on about?
Also if it has low velocity why are you trying to snipe with it if you know you have teammates that can back you up?

Also saying gamble your round on ammo racking it is essentially not a good point, theres something called “luck” and most people using solid shot dont seem to have any ;)

The Turret of the M52 is loaded with shells.

It can also be penned by .50 cals

So is the VIDAR and the M109G’s turret, yet you don’t see them getting ammo racked often unless they get flanked no?

Vidar is relatively empty.

M109 gets ammo racked plenty.

Stop Cherrypicking.

How is it cherrypicking to talk about other vehicles that have ammo racks in the back? Should we just say the T-34-85/D5-T and IS-1 are easy to ammo rack because they also got an ammo rack in the back of the turret and get ammo racked “Plenty”?

Could you show me your replays where you or any other player got ammo racked/ammo racked an M109G? If not then why are you arguing it gets ammo racked plenty?

Also how the hell is vidar empty? The entire back section is an Ammo rack LOL not to mention the split cabins for commander/loader and the gunner, i think you dont know what you’re talking about.

EDIT: It’s not cherrypicking since the AuF1, M109, M109G, M109A1, 2S1, 2S3M, PLZ and Bkan 1C all have the same problem of the ammo rack in the back, doesnt mean they get 1 hit killed by being ammo racked, again you can just look at them on the wiki and tell this wouldn’t be a great addition since most vehicles at 4.7-5.7 are using APHE/APHEBC or some variation of explosive filler rounds (hell even HEAT that cant overpressure on the swedish tanks) which would mean you’d not be able to ammo rack it without direct fire line on the ammo rack, meaning you need to kill the crew first or make sure the path the shot takes actually makes it have enough fuze time to hit the ammunition stowage of the enemy. (This isn’t a problem on Bkan 1C because the Ammo rack is physically outside the vehicle and in the back, same on the M109A1 - you can just bait enemies to shoot another part of your vehicle)

the M109 have over twice the overpressure penetration and over 3 times the radius. yet it still have a lot of vehicles that can take the hit if it’s not aiming well.

the M52 will need to be extra careful otherwise it will miss and the projectile will be even slower.

a tank like the Tiger 1H would need to hit pretty low on the turret to hope to penetrate the 26mm of the roof of the chassis. the Panther is easier as it only has 16mm there and the distance from the roof needs to be a lot less. the M109 would not even care about it.
tank like the T-34 or M4 Sherman are just no-brainer for a M109. almost anywhere it hits it’s an instant kill. while the M52 will only be capable of destroying it if it hits low enough on the turret or hits the roof itself. a tank like the KV-1 would be nearly immune to it, the roof being 30mm will require to have a hit extremely close to his roof to give the overpressure.

visibily the firepower between those 2 is completely different.
but the M52 has one advantage which is the HEAT and HESH which allow for a direct fire where you aim for the crew inside like a real glass cannon and not a derp gun.

so yeah, the M52 is much weaker and yes the play style is much different. and yeah, it is easier to play and yeah, it has his purpose for the game.

What BR would you put it though? There’s other vehicles that fill its role perfectly fine in the US tech tree and in other tech trees, I don’t really see why you’d want another flavour of M109G, besides you speak like you don’t know about how HE works on T-34s, you can overpressure the LFP and still hit between the tracks to completely kill the tank no matter what, the turret has a massive cheek weakspot which you overlooked and can be just fired at an almost 90 degree angle by most HE carrying vehicles and overpressured, not to mention the T-34 1943 and T-34-57 1943 models weakness of a 51mm turret ring that is largely exposed, adding onto that the giant vent that a T-34 has on its back that you can (again) hit at an 80 degree angle and be fine.
Why would you want other nations to suffer from one nation getting a slightly better vehicle at a lower BR than it should be/a copy of a good vehicle with slightly worse stats? It’s like asking to move the t-34-57 to 3.0 - by making a copy of it that is weaker and only has a weak squeeze breech. It’s a “no screwing around” type situation - the answer is it will never happen (In this case due to BR limitations and giving cheaters an easy to access “No brainer” tank to use)

So, breaking news
Aiming for the turret is… Aiming for a weakspot!

So why wouldn’t I take out a heavy tank with something like an 88mm for that exact reason? I would have:

  • Better armor
  • Better turret traverse
  • Faster-reloading gun
  • More gun depression
  • More consistent pen

Not being able to hit SPHs’ massive ammo racks with solid shot is pure skill issue. I’ve done it, I’ve seen others do it, it’s satisfying as hell to watch.

Aiming for the turret is not aiming for a weakspot what are you on?

You named an 88mm heavy tank, that’d make you play 5.7 automatically in the Tiger H1, for other heavy tanks in german tech tree you’d have the KV-IC which i think is a better comparison here as its 5.0 why would you take it out as it has no HE but APHE/APHEBC? You don’t need to aim with an HE shell, you can hit a 70 degree angle and the game wont give a crap. Also isn’t this thing just a really elaborate way to get a Tech tree version of the Brumbaar for the Americans? Same thought process for tiering and everything?

Who said ANYTHING about solid shot? I was talking about APHE/APHEBC Can you please learn to read before replying? The fuze on a Soviet/German 3.7-6.7 APHE isn’t enough to even ammo rack a M109, why would it be enough to ammo rack this thing?

What BR would you put this at, once again asking an important question nobody wants to answer because the compression is real.

My bad for not mention but, if I am aiming at the turret of an IS-1 and that player knows how to angle his turret while my shot is flying at them to the point of bouncing it isn’t that called NOT shooting at a weakspot since they can immediately change the weakness to a strenght? Wouldn’t a weakspot be, say the air vents on the ASU-57 for example that are like 3-5mm thick while the hull is 7mm? isn’t that a weakspot since its static and you cant remove it no matter what?

Also we already had this in Aug 23 2023 so I suggest just waiting until that is either confirmed added or confirmed as not being added.

Once again, funnily enough, for most SPHs it is. They tend to have different sets of weakspots they need to aim for than most tanks :P

“You can hit a 70 degree angle and the game won’t give a crap”
…Yes? Because that’s how HE shells work? Not to mention, the German 75mm on that KV-1C already has absolutely cracked performance, similar to the M4’s 76mm but on a chassis with actual armor.
And the Brummbar? Funny enough, also has actual armor (and a far bigger gun) compared to the M52. It’s lacking a turret as a tradeoff, sure, but doesn’t that mean you’re just whining about the potential addition of something Germany already practically has?

…You do realize that if you’re actually hitting the ammo, over pen doesn’t matter, right?
Go into test drive with whatever tank you’re having problems with. Fire whatever round you want at the ammorack of the tissue-paper-armored SPAA near spawn. Watch in amazement as it detonates anyways.
In-match, vs artillery? You have higher-velocity, faster-reloading, lower-drop rounds to do this.

In terms of BR, I’d say .3 above the Brummbar, I guess? So 4.7.

This dude is keeps saying M109G, when China doesn’t even get any SPH’s besides PLZ.

I think he’s just coping at this point.
