You might have heard about the M4A3E2 ‘Jumbo’. Its a tank with very strong armor and a weak gun and it’s very balanced at 5.7. However, his big brother, with a 76 mm gun, is quite overtiered. Let’s take a look and compare.
The M4A3E2 76 W is the first heavy tank in rank IV of the US ground tech tree. It’s settled at 6.3. Now let’s compare a tank at the same BR. The Jagdpanther G1 is at the same BR, but much better, being at 6.3, being the first TD in rank IV of the German tech tree.
I will compare these two in three factors. Armor, Firepower, and Speed.
Jagdpanther G1
Armor: the front of the Jagdpanther is 80 MM on a 55° angle, which is a effective 139 MM of armor. the sides are weaker, being 50 MM.
Speed: the Jagdpanther has a top speed of 46 km/h, a reverse gear of -3 km/h (which is absolutely terrible) and a power to weight ratio of 13 hp/t.
Firepower: The Jagdpanther has the powerful long 88 mm cannon, wtih the highest penetrating round having 279 mm of penetration (APCR). The stock round of this tank is the Panzergranaten 39/42, with 237 mm of penetration (APCBC).
Let’s take a look at the M4A3E2 76.
Armor: The hull of the tank is 101 MM @ a 46° angle, resulting in an effective thickness of over 150 mm. The sides of the hull is 76 mm. The turret is about 170 mm, as the sides are 152.
Speed: The maximum speed of the M4A3E2 is 35 km/h and a reverse of -5 km/h (a bit better) and a power to weight ratio of 13.2 hp/t.
Firepower: The highest penetrating round of this tank is the M93 shot (APCR), with 191 MM of penetration. The stock round is M79 shot with 135 mm of penetration (AP). The gun also has a vertical stabilizer which works up to 24 km/h.
If we rack up the points, the Jagdpanther wins with a 2-1 win. Gaijin, balance the 76 jumbo and put it at 6.0. Thank you.
