For some reason the M42 had two barrels, to be able to double the rate of fire. For example, the wirbelwind could do the same, first fire the two barrels on one side and then those on the other, also being able to double the rate of fire.
I honestly don’t understand why the devs didn’t get the rate of fire of the SPAA with double weapons right.
Maybe spend 5 seconds thinking about how playing a Kugelblitz at 7.0 with 70mm of pen is going to look like, I’ll wait.
Somehow they cannot figure out how to delay the second barrel from firing, so instead they give it an alternate RoF so over sustained firing it becomes offset, but it does nothing for short bursts.
You should take into account the number of guns the spaa has, since the stat card only represents the RPM of one of the guns, like @poopooo said.
For example, the Gepard’s in-game stat card, and on the wiki, it says it has a fire rate of 550 RPM.
However, it’s actually only for one gun,

I know that it takes time for the Kugelblitz to reach a point of desynchronization in its cannons, but for SPAA like the Ostwind II, it’s almost instantaneous, which increases its effective rate of fire to 500RPM which, for its rounds’ effectiveness, is extremely good.
Likewise, the Wirbelwind’s RPM would amount to an effective RPM of 1920, if all the guns were desynchronized.
Right now, USA’s SPAA has a massive gap in capabilities. Even the M163 is garbage compared to other SPAA near its BR.
Kugel’s armor doesn’t protect against bombs, but it is also suicide to try and bomb a decent kugel player. Their armor does, however, give them overpressure protection from HVAR’s and Zuni’s as well as .50cal protection, key tools for the US and factions that use US planes in the br range. It’s doing OK where it’s at, and doesn’t need to be showing up at lower BR’s.
Most SPAAs with double or quadruple cannons have two pedals to fire the weapons on one side and those on the other, so it was very easy to desynchronize the cannons and thus make a more closed line of bullets in the sky.
In reality, the Wirbelwind would only double the firing rate, since each pedal fires the two barrels on one side, not the four separately.
LMAO, you forgot to count the guns. The Wirblewind fires at 1,920 RPM, more than any cannon-armed (20mm or greater) SPAA below 7.7 except the TPK and M42.
Until SPAA recieves alternating barrel fire sequence, then the firerate should not be multiplied by barrel quantity.
What sort of backwards logic is this, especially when you claim that quad .50 cals are “incendiary lasers of death”
If that’s the case then any M4 is an equally good SPAA because fire rate shouldn’t be multiplied by barrel quantity!
Use HE
That doesn’t negate the meta, having to require some specific ammo that no one loads by default still gives a large advantage and opportunity to kill whatever shot you whilst they’re reloading.
Playing at the same BR? Unironically yes. We joked with my friend the last time we played that we have more kills with the pintle .50cals than with the actual quad fifty haha.
I said that because every single round is an incendiary tracer round.
Now let’s go back to the topic, shall we? Think we derailed the thread too far.
Lasers of death OT
API-T gives away your location pretty quick. I use API. Not a lot of tracers and when one API hits, it ignites their fuel tank thus burning the plane down as they try to escape.
that is from @JuicyKuuuuki … I tried it and it works good. They burn well in hell ^^
Instead, the damage output should be taken into account instead. RPM is not the only factor that makes an SPAA good.
Yes, I agree. What makes SPAA good for its intended role.
Primary:
- fire rate
- shell velocity
Secondary:
- mobility
- protection
I would add lethality, since shell velocity and fire rate alone doesn’t really do much when you consider 7.62s have pretty high velocity and fire rate.
Now when I hear Praga - I call it the Clicker because of it clicking sound
Good ol Czechoslovakian hads…still angry that USSR tt got for some reason when they didnt need it at all
