when I aim towards a plane and lock on with the left trigger, how do you do undo this/change the target of the lock-on? Because sometimes it’ll lock on to a ground vehicle or anti-air, or sometimes I just want to change my target to a closer plane - but I don’t know how to do this. It’s very annoying. I’d like to be able to undo or change my target.
what is the setting/controller option? I suspected that this was the case but I thought that surely that can’t be true - because it’s frustrating and a poor design choice.
I know this doesnt answer your question but it’s better in the long run to forget that mechanic exists. You cant use it in sim and in arb it’s better if you just use the free look camera to track your target manually.
On consoles this is much more difficult (no mouse by default)…target lock is a must. Once locked i use the analogue trigger to track whenever necessary.
In my PS4 i use “X” to target lock…i think it was the keybind by default. Everytime i press it it locks to the target closer to the gunsight.
It does change automatically sometimes…which is way annoying…but this is a separate issue.
Xbox should have a key for target lock…not sure on the option “name”.
I play on console too. I play mostly sim now but i had the tracking feature turned off even in arb. It hurts you more than it helps and you can still essily set up keybinds on controller to maintain full control of the camera.
so are we still no closer to finding what the option would be for me ‘fixing’ this on xbox lol?
Man, can warthunder please fix this - it probably is the most frustrating thing about the time. I don’t always use it, but it’s so useful when I do. And it’s incredibly annoying to be locked onto a plane 10km away when you’re trying to lock onto one 2k away, or locking onto a tank or AA ffs.
The button i have in “A” position (the “X” in PS4) does lots of things…including extinguisher. It also activates and stops repairs…it is messy sometimes.
BUT…in a properly working vehicle it locks targets…
You can try a test drive on a tank (where you have time to test)…and press it to see if it changes the locked target
You simply aim at different targets and press it…you should notice the locked target changing…
ANYHOW…in the above screens you can see where to find it “CONTROLS - > COMMON” it is the 6th or so…“Lock Target” in english.
In the image below it is configured as a mouse button…but in Xbox it is something else:
