Lockheed YF-12A Blackbird - Worlds fastest interceptor.

i see, and then there’s the IR seeker to find something else if it misses the beam(in appropriate variants)?

The AIM-47 never had an IR seeker for terminal tracking, not even in a mockup. They certainly considered it (and their rivals did trial the AIM-97 seekbat with an IR seeker), but calculated that it would add too much weight, volume and cost for very little gain. There is a version of the AIM-47 designed for anti radiation/ground attack, the AGM-76A, that was considered but ultimately rejected in favour of the AGM-78 STARM, but maybe they could add it to an YF-12A? Seems a bit too far fetched though.

Do you have a source for further reading on the AIM-47/GAR-9 program? I just wanna know why all this happened

How well can the Archangel turn? Or will the wing snap off?

Pretty bad. It can only pull about 2.5 to 3.5 g at most, depending on the operational load factor, of course.

If it gets some experimental munitions I think it can work as an event plane. Then again wing snap is kind of unrealistic as some planes aircraft frame can handle it but you just spent your airframes whole life in one turn. Though some planes will just brake up.

I have already mentioned “The hughes falcon missile family”, which is an online paper you can see easily.See chapter VIII. The Ultimate Falcon

There’s also A designation systems web page that references a few declassified papers

Finally on the DTIC repository there’s the published memoires of Lieutenant General Lloyd Levitt, who among other things evaluated the AMSA (the future B-1B) and YF-12 program.

Perhaps most interesting snippet on the later:

I really hoped that the YF-12A would be coming this winter event alongside the MiG-25. Then we would atleast have a counter at the same time. The MiG-25 being quick to accelerate, and turn well with alright missiles. And the YF-12A being the quickest interceptor to come to the game, but alright missiles for high alt lik the AIM-4’s.

the first two sources talk about IR AIM-47s tho

Are there any missils the radar could handle but the plane never had. Gaijin does follow the rule of if the radar or cannon can fire a munition then you can have it sometimes. What stuff can the radar handle?

Maybe but then again you have to be sure the aircraft has the right hard points.

Not just hardpoints, but also integration with the fire control system, stores management system, etc

Gaijin for balance sometimes will justify it stating it’s just software irl and attachments are something that gets modified a lot.

Why is it hairy

Its an aerodynamic test body. The ‘hairs’ show the path of the air during wind tunnel and flight testing.

Afaik it wasnt actually associated with the YF-12A, it simply utilised existing Falcon missile parts to produce an Anti Radiation missile for other platforms.

Technically as its a test/dummy model it isnt really an AGM if its for testing despite whats stencilled on the side. More probably its paperwork say XAGM or even DAGM if its ony a non-flight rated dummy.
