While it is fascinating, I don’t think it would work in this game. For one thing, all your facts that shows the top speed of all these aircraft, in fact, the top speed of the SR-71, YF-12A, etc are still classified, as well as the max altitude.
Secondly, the aircraft would be too fast for the maps used in WT.
I have seen this plane at the National Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH. I love it and the SR-71.
BTW, the A-12 was not called a Blackbird. It was called Archangel.
It’s a weird plane to balance because the armament isn’t all that useful and it’s too fast compared to a lot of jets in the game. It probably needs a hard counter like the MiG-31, otherwise people are just going to fly to space and be annoying because the jet is going too fast and too high for missiles to reach it. It could fit in the 12.7 bracket in AIR RB but not without the MiG-31 added in the game or something. I would still like to see it at some point.
Alright, so first of all, id love to see this ingame. Second however, it should not be a special pack if it can only be used in custom battles as that ruins the whole point of a special pack. I could see it being squadron or tech tree that came with all mods being already researched (assuming it ends up custom battle only), but if the mods are already researched, assume that it would add to the research and SL cost of getting the airplane
Ngl, now that i think of it, this could maybe be added as an air version of “dreams come true” event where they can add vehicles that would not really fit in the game in other way
now MIG-25 coming hope to see YF-12 too. even though it just carried 3 aim-47 falcons. curious if they give us a prototype or the planned but canceled f-12 production variant. hope for the prototypes though.
i’m sorry but there’s no way that you’re getting a SARH lock at 100nmi as listed in some sources, i can understand that it had some anti rad capabilities to help hit at those distances but still, a 40 inch antenna doesnt change the fact the missile’s seeker is still tiny
Well, looking up “The hughes falcon missile family”, apparently the initial guidance of the missile is done through a pre-programed autopilot leading it close enough for the missile seeker to track the enemy, so I guess that by warthunder´s standards that would count as IOG without datalink + Pulse doppler SARH.
As it was just said, the missile’s seeker does not pick up the radar return until it is close to the target… it is kind of like a Fox 3 with no midcourse track updates, but when it goes “pitbull” it is going semi-active. Lol
This would be an amazing addition after the MiG-25 and even the F-117, as Gaijin has now shown a precedent to add silly vehicles like these even if they do not fit the gameplay balancing well.
