Depends of the country I suppose. Infantry vehicles aren’t really tanks in most countries but some light tanks can indeed be used as infantry support. However I don’t think it’s still the case today as it would expose them too much.
Then you have the Bradley which is missing half a dozen of its variants in game meanwhile they keep cranking out every variant of the russian vehicles like the bmp.
True, but I really don’t think we need more IFVs in the game, but that’s beside the point.
We actually do need more, only because the can of worms has been opened and one nation got way more than others did. russia. So the only way now would be to remove theirs, or let other nations have full line ups as well.
every tank being able to frontally pen every other tank in their BR range is not balance.
I have no issues spotting tanks when I am playing one with no thermals, but I have used enough thermal equipped vehicles to know just how much easier, faster, and capable of spotting things that would be unspottable without them, that they provide very clear and present advantages over any vehicle without them, all else being equal.
My subjective experience is that snapshot APFSDS/HEATFS/ATGMS that hit my hull will almost always kill or severely cripple me, and that in half or more of cases when I snapshot a light tank in return, they are capable of immediately returning fire because of the lack of post-penetration damage my APHE rounds will do if they cannot fuse on the armor and explode. And the 14.5 is by no means an I win button, even if I get a perfect 90 degree side shot on a light tank.
Why should vehicles NOT be able to pen vehicles of their own BR? You don’t explain this, you just keep stating it like its fact. Its not. The ability to deflect a shell without damage is a HUGE advantage when many fights are concluded in one shot. Mobility is not a significantly important factor on 1km x 1km maps that they keep shoving into high teirs. Thats why armored tanks have been nearly universally the dominant tanks in the history of this game. The T29 release, the IS6 release. The XM-1 release. All of them completely upending the balance of the game for months until they got upteired. Even the centurions after volumetric was added were near game breaking until they toned the volumetric down and upteired them again (and nerfed apds after the upteir… again).
This seems to be a problem unique to you. Universally thermals are taken into account when determining BRs and tanks with them are usually mediocre vehicles without said thermals. With the thermals they are passable. The Type 16 you cite is just a slower Rooikat with thermals and slightly better postpen at +2 BR hops. The warrior would probably sit at 7.3 without thermals. The AMX10 has one of the worst damage models in the game with both UFP and LFP ammo rack with side shoulders that transmit every single pen into a destroyed turret ring due to their bizare modeling.
Sounds like you aren’t angling well. If you put your nose to the enemy, they can pen the driver area all the way down your hull. If you angle, they have significantly smaller weak points to aim at on your shoulders and it will only kill the driver due to the angle. If you are seriously saying the 130mm can’t disable a vehicle even without fusing, the problem is you. Even as just a kinetic round its going to both kill everything in its path and spall enough to kill or destroy vehicles. Again, the Chieftan has a 120mm APDS round that barely spalls at all. It is very similar to the kinetics of the 130mm. And most IFVs have a 30mm+ UFP you can aim for and pen at 60 degrees horizontal for easy APHE OHKs.
Volumetric isn’t something that can be toned down.
It either exists or it doesn’t, so it hasn’t been edited since release because that’d mean disabling it.
Obj 279 can be penned by everything at-BR, though Chieftain Mk3 has the most difficulty of others, but it also has more armor.
I think the issue is the current matchmaking is greatly affected by the total player counts on specific br, which causes the 8.0 to face 8.7 like 9 out of 10 matches, that’s why they have troubles with Object 279, the noise is coming from the players who mains 8.0s or 8.3s. I’ve played China quite a bit since I bought the Lunar Bundle, The T-69IIG has no problem solo the Object 279 especially long range, your era will sometimes stop the APHE, the T-62 is slightly worse but still the apfsds has no problem going through the ufp.
Well, the vast majority of 8.0s & 8.3s still have access to HEATFS, which still lolpens heavy tanks, Obj 279 included.
People aren’t familiar with dealing with them, so they’re having trouble for the moment.
You’re right but I don’t like it … conventional tanks will have no point anymore.
IFVs are worse than MBTs, but they serve a purpose.
There’s a reason IFVs aren’t main tanks for most people in War Thunder.
As for light vehicles, more recon vehicles are on the way. :)
Depends on the nation you’re playing. I hate IFVs because they all got the no-skill 30 mm autocanon and some even have missiles.
Games are full of IFVs (especially BTR) that just wreck MBTs because the forces are not equal. One main gun that can eventually kill the commander against a shell sprayer that wrecks everything from the crew to the gun…
The goal of the game is to aim your shots, otherwise you’re in trouble. IFVs don’t have that problem and can just wreck light tanks and MBTs.
I think at the top tier angling your tank is actually bad because most ammunition at those br can go through the front tracks that you are pointing it at your enemy, like I wasn’t able to pen this guy frontally due to composite armor when he didn’t angled, but when he is angled I saw an opening which is the front track that allows the apfsds to enter the tank.
It only shows Soviets get two plane & NVD before everyone else, the latter is useless since night battles don’t exist. And the two-plane is on PT-76.
The next two-plane stab Soviets get is at 8.0, after Britain.
Everything else other nations get first or at the same time.
On volumetric release the plates of the centurion turret were overlapping far more than they should have. Many areas had 350mm or more of armor. There were TONS of threads you can still find on the reddit about it.

So no, volumetric IS something that can be toned down.
That’s an issue with armor and other conflicting code, not one of volumetric itself.
‘armor and conflicting code’ that only existed after volumetric was added. Ok sure, whatever you want to think.
No, the conflicting code always existed.
Volumetric just made the code noticeable.
As long as it isn’t a russian vehicle that is. Those magically cannot be fixed.
